The Exorcist was not just a movie, it was a movement. Linda Blair is not just an actress, she's something I can't define, but no other actor or actress in history has defined a role so well, or horribly. Linda Blair said that when she would walk down the street and people were walking towards her, they would cross the street to avoid her. Can you name a SINGLE movie that has had this affect on a society as much as The Exorcist has ? It's more than a movie, it's something I can't define.

The same thing happened to her 6 years later with Chained Heat. The script she got was a strong script, well written, had a good message. Then she said almost every day she was given pages of rewritten scenes so they ended up filming something entirely different from what she was initially offered. I will never forget her 'promoting' Chained Heat on the early 80's late night talk show Thicke of the Night when she described the movie and Alan Thicke said "Sounds like a Linda Blair special. Linda Blair is probably one of only a handful of stars that has kept her wits throughout the decades despite her early success when she was only 13. Hollywood has a nasty tendency to rob you of your childhood in more ways then one. You have to mature very quickly in order to perform at that level. On a side note, I was surprised to hear that Richard Burton had to resort to cue cards. I always thought that was Marlon Brando's modus operandi.

She went through hell doing the original Exorcist movie. During the scene when she was being thrown back and forth, she hurt her back fairly severely. Plus having to spend hours in a room that was under 30⁰ wearing only a nightgown, and a buttload of makeup, she froze her butt off. Plus add to that all of the odd occurrences and deaths that happened during production. nope actually her story telling is pretty lame. the story itself is what makes it fun bc its about a salty detail of your favourite horror movie. her story telling skills however are pretty weak...long breaks....no facial expression....too much aahh eermmms etc..... i already interrupted the video to scroll through comments haha

While it was certainly, in my opinion, the weakest of the films (and TV show) so far, it is still a very enjoyable movie. I remember when the movie hit HBO (and eventually whatever network channel it ended up on...I think it was CBS, just like the original did), the TV Guide description for the movie read something like "lightened by unintentional humor". I could certainly see that....but even as a kid, that possessed Regan face still scared the hell out of me, so the movie definitely had that going for it. It was great to see Max Von Sydow and Kitty Winn reprise their roles as Father Lankester Merrin and Sharon respectively. Yes, the music was stirring as well. I think, however, that the rock song we hear at the end of the movie was added in for the broadcast showing of the film, even though we do hear the song at times in some trailers for Exorcist II. If I were to rate The Exorcist movies and TV show (2 seasons) it would be: 1. The Exorcist 2. Exorcist III 3. The Exorcist (TV show....especially Season One) 4. The two prequels: Domnion; Prequel to The Exorcist and Exorcist: The Beginning 5. Exorcist II: The Heretic I am also eagerly awaiting The Exorcist: Believer. Apropos that it comes out on the 50th anniversary of the original film. I don't think I'll be scared by it, but I do believe I'll get a few good chills out of it.
@EdsterIII

It had some okay parts. But overall and as is usually the case the original is always the best version. However the third movie in the series with George C. Scott was a intense and really creepy addition. Brad Dourif was amazing as always as was Father Karras. How they connected and utilized each part. Bringing the Gemini Killer into the fold with the possession, swapping out the actors of the Gemini and the Priest. Using catatonic people for his bidding was really a unique take. It's been a long time since I've seen the second movie, so I'm not going to bash it since I don't have a fresh or recent look at it and I won't try to make judgments on something I haven't seen in 25+ years.
