What I love about your channel is you talk about saving money. I simply cannot relate to people who I will not name who always have money for the latest greatest and it’s just a neverending stream of gear. most of us are working people, many have kids, and this is a passion that we dedicate ourselves to with seriousness, but only have so much each year to spend. People should NEVER feel ashamed about that. Capitalism tries to shame us, but there is no shame in being responsible to your loved ones and self.

Oh yeah, I have a feeling we're kindred spirits with our feelings about capitalism... My day job is a public school teacher and one of the main reasons I chose that profession is I didn't want to engage with capitalism (although being a HS teacher you see how bad it is up close...). I've had many conversations with friends about how to navigate this channel without going down the road of marketing or selling.... I actually deleted some videos awhile back that I thought were too much of an infomercial. I've also decided to stop doing 'unboxing' videos.

@@braintree56 that’s awesome man! I am in education as well (medical illustrator for a University / Hospital). Nothing against the buying and selling of goods, but everything against the culture that pressures people into it, makes people feel inferior for having less. Your channel is a breath of fresh air. Makes so much sense what you do - you are truly a great teacher!!!

Great video! People always say that Eurorack is so expensive and that the case is a huge part of that - I bought a used Tiptop case for barely over $100 and an old blue lantern polivoks filter as my first module for $50 to join the DFAM I have. I then added a Dreadbox Utopia and Erica synths black modulator. Haven’t spent more than $300 and don’t feel the need to urgently fill the rest in. It’s totally doable. it really can be reasonably affordable if you build over time and buy used.

I think keeping a small case is important. Another great way to save money is DIY kits. Building the modules gives a another level of value to me as it's super fun and rewarding. There are a lot of great kits out there that aren't hard with basic soldering.

@@braintree56 yes! Great point. I did the Dreadbox Dysmetria last year. First DIY build. Was scared and that’s a hard one. My trick - joined a local Maker Space for two months. The tools and the people there were a lifesaver. Dysmetria works. Feels good.

Thanks for this awesome series, the timing is honestly eerily good for me. I was wondering if you had any thoughts about the NiftyBUNDLE as a beginner rack?

I don't have any personal experience with those, but it seems to me that the general opinion is that the modules aren't that great. It might be totally fine... But I think it probably makes sense to get a higher quality case and pick the modules rather than get a bundle (unless you are going to get one of the super expensive systems).

Nice overview! Another alternative I’ve been looking at is the 4MS Pod series. They max out at 64HP, but you can daisy-chain them together (I think up to 3 or 4), so you can have a modular setup for your modular gear that’s never too full or too empty.

Great suggestion. Those are really cool.

@claytonthedavis I looked at that as well. I ended up getting the Moog 104hp when it was on sale. However, I’ll end up outgrowing it, but since it was on sale I went that way to match my Moog setup.
