Poka. I like the way you pronounce your name. The Afrikaans speaking people in South Africa pronounce the name just as you said on Expat American's channel. I will visit your website and see if I can understand anything. I subscribed to your channel and see what you do.. Like I said on Expat's channel I follow a couple of Russian people. The one dearest to my heart is Dari Step. She started studying at the University of New York for her 2 year MBA. She finished University in Russia and started travelling to other countries, taking us with her. She is not only beautiful on the outside but beautiful from within. She will be popular for her lovely personality. It feel as if she is my granddaughter.

@@expatamerican3234 Does your heart melt when looking at her? Your son and daughter is little younger than her. Be nice, very nice to her when you chat. Remember, she is the apple of my eye. (I know, you are a kind and lovely person) btw - my eldest is 51 and youngest 42 🥰🥰 to you and your lovely family poka

But to answer your question, depending on what city or town youre in. Russians with more income and opportunities may learn a second language. English is not so used in smaller towns. To visit Russia you don't need to learn Russian you can get around and simply use head nods and hands to communicate small things. If you don't speak Russian I advice you not to start big conversations 😂
