My story to health. I lived in PH for 18 months and then moved to Thailand and have been here almost 5 years. I smoked for over 40 years and my lungs said enough. I quit and got a bicycle. After three years biking and much improved health I started going to the gym, whichis just steps away from my condo. In 6 months at gym and watching youtube docs about good nutrition and trying what they said, I have lost 27 lbs and and now at my healthy 1990 weight. I still enjoy a beer or three on a night out. I take coq10 and in the mornings eat a bowl of berries with oats, greek yogurt and add chia seeds and flax seeds in for good measure. I am now healthier than I have been in years. Find what is best for you. I ate any and everything up until 6 months ago. My blood work is now great and after being on bp meds for 13 years I now do not need them at all.

My friend who was an ER nurse, got shingles right at '23 Thanksgiving. She knew other than a couple prescriptions that may or may not work for certain people, she was up poop creek. Home remedies are worthless and may cause more harm depending on a myriad of things. The old shot in advance is not a guarantee either but the new shot is supposedly much more effective. That, told to me by my doctor not 3 months past.

Philly - regarding your issue (Shingles) - I've had em....I've had the shingles Vaccine (two doses 6 months apart) and I've had a single minor outbreak since then. There's a couple of things to note. Get to a doctor when you have an outbreak and have them prescribe anti-viral medication. The Anti-virals do not "cure" shingles, but the can reduce the duration of symptoms. The pain you describe is post-neuropathic pain associated with the nerves affected by shingles. the anti-virals prescribed during an outbreak have the best benefit with post-neuropathic pain. I know it can be very painful and the area as you note is very very sensitive to touch, wind, water, heat. So in the end I feel your pain as I've had them. At this point, I'm not sure the would prescribe an anti-viral as the main symptoms are done. I would still talk to a doctor which is much more affordable there to see if anything topical can be prescribed. Regarding how to prevent, shingles can be brought on by extreme stress either mental or physical. When I had my major outbreak working 80 hours a week did it for me. Also a recent illness or stress on your body can bring about an outbreak. You also mention some underlying health issues and a change in lifestyle. As you might guess, once again system stress and even a good change in lifestyle can result in system stress. The good news is you will be better off with the positive change, but I know that doesn't help you at the moment with that pain. I would even experiment with a topical lidocaine cream. Think of that stuff that you can spray on a sunburn that has a numbing effect on the skin nerves. if that is available, I would try it on a small spot first to see if it helps at all. But still - go see a doctor who is knowledgeable about Shingles! I wish you all the best.

I've had shingles across my left eye. Wasn't too painful for me but I know what it looks like because my mother I cared for got it. Immediate antibiotics helped me. I went before the pain started. All it does is lessen the severity. I would go with my go-to-medication if you can get it there. Calmoseptine works for pressure sores, wounds, itching, burns, cuts, scrapes. In your case would put a barrier over the sores to protect from perspiration. You ever had a pressure sore you would know how painful they are. Totally kills the pain for me and allowed me to lie on the same spot. Problem is....very messy and you probably can't get it there. Knock offs don't work well. It's something about the Calmoseptine original brand that just works. The knock offs just don't spread and stay put like Calmoseptine does. You need to put it on thick and a single 4 oz tube is around $7.50 in the US. Even if it doesn't work it would still be good for any family that has babies. Works wonders on diaper rash. I always have a tube of it. Keeps air and mosture off the open sores. It's a barrier paste. Knock off barrier pastes may look the same but they don't work the same.

Sorry to hear you are in so much discomfort, I would be pissed, too. I'm a retired microbiologist, but back in grad school I was the only microbiologist that took a course in Medicinal Botany. I don't know of any "sure fired cure" for the shingles, but I do know from personal experience that lemon balm helps with the virus that causes cold sores. If I feel a tingle on my lip, like I am about to have a break out, I smash up some lemon balm leaves with a bit of hot water, then hold that mash on my lip. I do that a few times and the cold sore never comes. I have not had a cold sore now in well over a decade. If it works on that virus, perhaps it will help with shingles, too? Can hurt to try it. I also make a tea with the lemon balm leaves and drink it. I hope something works for you, Brian.

Philly… try to do yoga or some regiment that relaxes you. All of the problems you mentioned are band aids for relieving internalized stress. The Shingles are a second generation of chicken pox virus, usually unleashed by To much stress. Sadly once launched you just have to live through it. My wife went through a sevier case of shingles. It lasted for months, and she was left with significant nurse damage in areas. The only help the doctors could give her were pain pills on occasion, and even those are largely ineffective since the block nurses from getting pain signals… nothing blocks pain generated in the nurses themselves. Smoking and vaping both give you a nurvous outlet… stress builds up you light a cigarette, etc. maybe try tootsie pops… or just quit. Set your mind to it, you can do amazing things. Type 2 diabetes is 90% dietary in origin. My trip to Philippines cut it down dramatically caused me to figure out why. Basically the key was while there I didn’t eat much processed food. Baught a lot of stuff from the farmers markets, and despite all the names I was called I never had more than a table spoon of rice. Starch is your enemy. Corn syrup is 10 times worse than pure sugar. Quit buying American packaged foods… they almost all have a super up vornyrup in them. Get European stuff even if it is sweet it’s usually sugar not corn syrup. Or better yet by fresh from farmers markets. But under it all find stress relieve… you get rid of that most of your other problems fade.

Garlic for Shingles Among some different home remedies, lots of people recommend garlic at various stages of shingles in order to help control the condition. Basically, garlic is an antiviral, a plant with properties that help fight the development of a virus. This makes raw garlic a good candidate for helping to reduce the symptoms of shingles before the condition worsens. Using Garlic for Shingles Treatment If you want to treat yourself with garlic, simply take several raw cloves a day in some dietary form. You can use fresh garlic or garlic supplements. This natural plant has few side effects apart from a pungent odor, which many people do not like and which can be hard to get rid of. Garlic can also cause stomach ache in some people.

It is an after effect of chicken pox! So, if you had them as a child, which you probably did, you are at risk for shingles. I was told it often happens when you’re stressed either mentally or physically and Brian saying he got it after quitting vaping is not that far-fetched. My mother got it after a very stressful time in her life, the death of my sister, her daughter. Personally, I think that’s what triggered hers. Unfortunately, I think it just has to run its course. You can treat the symptoms, but it has to play out.

It’s good to see you, again, Philly in the Philippines , doing your old walking around routine; I needed a quick and much needed change from seriousness. Your lighthearted videos of pleasant ‘good mornings’, stress free sight seeing tours among the sidewalk vendors, the marketplace, the entertainment establishments, the parks, the general neighborhoods, etc. do it for me, even just for a while. I hope you get rid of your aches and pains, and soon! Have you decided to remain in Angeles city? I am embarrassed to say your last episodes I watched were when you were thinking about relocating. I should really go back watching old videos to keep up with what ‘s going on with the rest of your family, and friends.

Diabetic - add 300mg Alpha Lipoic Acid with each meal. I was in the supplement business for years. These things may help you.
