I just found a line of my family tree that includes Edison. He and I are both descendants of the founders of Newark, Jasper Crane and Governor Robert Treat. I had no clue I had such deep roots in NJ when I lived in NY and I’m trying to make up for lost time. Thank you for such a neat video. Olmstead is also a cousin to Edison and myself.

This is such a neat story to share thank you. It must be a rush of emotions finding out about that lineage. It's really cool to find the lengths of family heritage.

Thank you for stopping by my video. I began work on a video called, "Across America's Little Italy" which eventually just became a segment in my San Diego video. I would still love to finish that video since Newark has some great Italian American history

Bravo Jose!!! Your videos are very informative and educational as well. I grew up in Newark/East Orange and went to Barringer HS, just a stone throw away from the Basilica. Newark has always been a fascinating city, even during the times of economic downturn . I thank you for highlighting the Brick City as many Newark natives sometimes refer to our beloved city. Continue the great work.

Enjoy your trip to NYC. Newark's downtown is a nice area to pass the time. If you want to take a small detour I recommend the Edison museum. There is a lot more to see then what I showcased and its fascinating

Born in Newark. Grew up in East and West Orange, family home is still in West Orange, sitting right below that first lookout (Eagle Rock Reservation) Jose showed us. I was married in Sacred Heart Cathedral. It was a snowy night ( got special permission for a night wedding). All candle lit with a medieval theme. Wow, long time ago.

Excellent video but just a fyi ; the monument with the giant light bulb on top is located in Edison, NJ in the Menlo Park section. It was there that Edison had his laboratory, not Newark, and is a part of Middlesex County.

It was a last minute sneak into the video on my part to briefly showcase the light bulb. Its actually the largest functioning light bulb in the world. Have you ever visited the museum in Edison? I am leaving it for a when I cover Middlesex in a future video and it was closed by the time I made it there. Really fascinated by this history

@@JoseOnTour yea, I live there. Honestly, the museum is not that great, nothing to write home about but the monument is cool. Honestly, your video on Newark was really great and I look forward to seeing what else you bring forth. Keep up the hard work! It won't go unnoticed.

When you covered Edison’s house it reminded me of a museum we went to in Fort Myers, FL called Edison and Ford Winter Estates. They also had a partially fenced off room with his tools/workshop there. They decorate the home and grounds at Christmas and it is really beautiful.

Newark is an Important city in America's development, but the sad part is that people don't recognize it for it. Since the riots Newark has had bad PR, and it's slowly starting to go away thanks to the massive development happening downtown, ironbound, and areas in the city. Many white residents are moving back to the city in the new residential towers downtown. The population is above 300,000 keeping its title as largest city where Jersey City came very close to becoming number. Even though Jersey City looks like a better city due to all the development going on over there Newark is still a beautiful city with amazing history. Everyone loves a comeback story; everyone loves an underdog, and I am excited to be alive to see Newark change. Before 2030 Downtown Is going to be looking very different and will change the negative image people have on the city.

He bought a lot of inventions from people that had no chance of bringing them to fruition. When they got mad that he could and made money, people cried foul, but shrewdness does not equal theft.
