I enjoyed your video because I like mobile HF and I also like Hustler antennas. I am Jack Daniel / KF5SGC. Thanks and 73. PS You probably already know but Hustler makes a part, VP-1, which is a part that can be attached to the mast that you can attach 3 resonators at the same time and work 3 bands without having to stop the vehicle to change resonators.

Very interesting concept. I use Hustlers and have since 1968. I agree with the center loading 100%. One note is my Hustler mast covers 6 meters. I have rarely used six meters but I have resonators for all bands. I will try the parallel coin trick that might be great for POTA operations. Most of the time I am parked when operating. I wonder if you have tried two hustler 54 inch masts to get the length below the coil to 108 inches? I did that once and don’t think I even had to retune the resonator. I have been planning to try that again. 73, N4DJ

Thank you Rick! Great information about this old but very functional antenna. Just bought 40,20,17, and super 15 coils today from my local CB/commercial radio shop. They did not have a mast though. I have a 2005 F-150, where would you mount these? NMO mount on top or stake pocket drivers side or my aluminum toolbox? I’m looking for ideas: first though I have is 22” mast on top of my truck where the NMO is with spring. That is contrary to the antenna current theory, so I’m not liking it. Next idea, stake pocket with a 90° mirror mount with 54” mast, spring on bottom, QD on top, with the resonator on top of that(probably the best plan). Third idea, use same as second idea just mounted on the back of the truck toolbox. It is aluminum so I would put a piece of Steel on the inside to beef up the metal. 4th idea, mount in my 2” receiver with 3/8-24 lug, with the same spring, 54” solid mast, QD, then resonator on top. You might approach Hustler about creating dual band versions with one coil container. Versions for 40/20, 20/15 and 10/6 could prove quite popular. There'd be no need to stop to change bands. The hitch would be that the upper element is the same for those two bands. But it might be possible to tune the coils such that tuning one for a band also brings the other in its band.

Thanks for the great video Rick. It is very helpful to those of us who like to experiment with different setups for POTA/SOTA. 73! DE VE3IGS.
