Craig Gordon Forecaster, Media Coordinator Craig is the sole avalanche forecaster for the western Uinta Mountains--an area accessed primarily by snowmobile--and also handles much of the avalanche education for snowmobile groups. Craig has done avalanche control for Brighton Ski Area in Utah since the mid 1980's and then worked as a helicopter ski guide. He has worked for the Forest Service Utah Avalanche Center since 2000. Craig developed the Know Before You Go avalanche awareness program for young adults in 2004, which has been extremely popular. The one-hour program includes a 15-minute video and slide show presentation and is taught by a team of local avalanche professionals. The program has directly reached over 175,000 students in Utah to date and has spread around North America. Craig's legendary enthusiasm and communication skills keep him in high demand on the avalanche lecture circuit and television appearances. Listen, hate on his style all you want, but he knows more about the terrain, snowpack, and avalanches than you ever will.

Terrible what happened. Looks like they had beacons probes and shovels. Prices have come down so far on avy bags there's almost no excuse to not have one anymore. More avy education is needed for back country riders, snowmobiles and skiers, and they need to be willing to take the classes.. Terrain evaluation is a major component to all of this regardless of snow conditions. Slides can happen anytime regardless of snow conditions. Always leave yourself a out. First thing I noticed in this video is they were all at the bottom of a bare hill,, no trees.. Chances are that hill has slid multiple times before and that's the reason there and no trees. If they would have moved out of that area they might not have had to locate and dig out one of the buddies.

@@Frog-AF The skiers who were killed were over 100 miles away from the snowmobilers, so the first poster definitely doesn't know what he's talking about. @@Frog-AF no ....he’s not. There were 100% absolutely not skiers “that didn’t survive” in this incident. Utter nonsense. Please link the full video. I’m an avalanche professional. Remote trigger of Persistent and Deep Persistent slab avalanches from flatter terrain beneath steeper terrain is classic and typical. Particularly with machine powered recreation. Maybe they mention skiers, but point me to the “full video” because I went to this guy’s IG and I didn’t hear that. Bottom line, no skiers were killed related to this incident. This dude had his transceiver in his pack.....and didn’t even connect the gas to his airbag or didn’t assemble the electric component (I forget which). Credibility is severely lacking .
