If I could play Devil's advocate for a minute, assuming John was arguing in good faith (no pun intended), I think he might have been latching on to HARD-Atheism was being possibly, at least in part, the position of the ACA. Because Atheism IS also, at least technically and in part, the positive claim that God doesn't exist. Now I'm pissed about that fact too because, personally, I am and will always be a SOFT Atheist. The reason being that, for me, being an Atheist is first and foremost about refusing to accept a position as being even possibly true, when no "evidence" other than Faith exists for it. Hard Atheism on the other hand is as much belief based as Theism is (not based on evidence) the only difference being one side says yes to God's existence while the other says no. But because God is context-locked in the word Theism itself, the moment you say no to the question: do you believe in God, you're an Atheist, even if the foundation of your claim is, ironically, belief-based. But I suppose that until we can start using the word Theism A-contextually (like we already do for say...Gnosticism), we will be stuck with the Hard Atheists on our side of the fence and clarification will have to be made everytime this ambiguity comes up. Like maybe in this video here.

Theism is the single most dead concept in philosophy, just ahead of the concept of an afterlife. Atheism is the default position on the question _Does a god exist?_ Never in the entirety of human history has a single phenomenon been conclusively determined to have supernatural causation, or to be the direct result of the actions of a god. Not once. No theist can refute this or overcome the philosophical implications

@@walnutoil100 It isn't circular. I'm giving my justification for believing that no god exists. In the court of god existing, it has been found not guilty. Only evidence to the contrary can change that. If anyone has a problem with me concluding that insufficient evidence of a cosmos creating god has been offered, all they have to do is offer sufficient evidence in order to change my mind. It's easy, right? If I want to prove there's a tree in my yard, I point to the tree so you can see it and investigate it if you wish. I don't claim my invisible, incorporeal tree is there irrespective of your not seeing it. I don't claim _there must be a tree in my yard, otherwise where did this leaf come from,_ and I'm not an adult who pretends he has a personal relationship with the creator of the cosmos. So let me get this straight. When you're trolling you get to consider claims you make as irrefutable fact, while when you're questioning others you want to maintain high epistemological standards? Is that how it works? I could just say _I'm an evidential presuppositionalist. I take it on faith that all claims aside from the claim "all claims must be demonstrated to warrant acceptance" must be demonstrated to warrant acceptance_

This whole argument with John comes down to John looking at the philosophical definition of atheism while Matt insists that the philosophical definition is irrelevant and always adheres to a colloquial usage. Except, that's not quite accurate. Matt is well aware of the philosophical definition but pretends that it doesn't exist; so he doesn't actually insist on using a colloquial definition, rather, he uses the colloquial definition and pretends that there is no other definition. And rather than address that point engages in ad hominem and insults his called because that's easier than having a conversation. Of course John seems unaware that there is more than one way to define atheism. He's sticking to a philosophical definition, which is a claim. It is true that definitions are descriptive not prescriptive but to have a conversation you kind of have to agree on which definition you're using. Matt switches back-and-forth at his convenience which is not just a fallacy, but a deliberate deception attempt. In one breath he'll assert that it's not possible for gods to exist but in another he'll assert that he is only arguing that he's unconvinced. These are not the same position, but Matt uses them as if they are. I really enjoyed the sincere conversations Matt has. He just doesn't seem to have them very often.

Bingo! A few atheist KOL literately said that it is his 'right' of being an atheist to define whatever the word 'atheism' mean. (A murder has the right to define what murder means? Funny logic.) Sure everyone can define whatever the usage of a word means but like you said in a conversation when someone doing so, switching back-and-forth of different definitions, it is just a dishonest "deliberate deception attempt".

@@FourDeuce01 there is only ONE philosophical definitions of atheism. Theism--the belief of the existence of a god or gods. Atheism--the opposite, the disbelief of the existence of a god or gods. Some atheists invented this lack of belief in order to provide justification of their atheist belief. Like the lady host in this video when John asked what atheist is then. @@adamc1694 “there is only ONE philosophical definitions of atheism.” The number one rule of religious apologists is “If you’re gonna tell a lie, make it a whopper.” You should learn some logic so you stop doing foolish things like lying to people about atheism. “She even denied her atheist belief is a worldview.” Of course she did, since atheism is neither a belief nor a worldview. You really need to learn some basic logic before you go to kindergarten, or else all the other kids will laugh at you and call you a fool.🤡

Took me two seconds the definition of a atheism a “person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods”. So now what people y’all know that if no one where to make a god claim there would be no lack of belief so the ways you can kill atheism off is by getting everyone and anc I mean everyone hooked on the same religion and have those people agree with everything you think or when the last god believer is gone then there will be no reason to say your atheist

i will always stand by atheism being a world view. i get why they say it isn’t; because it’s just a lack of belief in a claim and doesn’t actually make any positive claims of it’s own; but its still a way in which you view the world and its origins, its a question we have yet to answer; some people posit a creator - and thats their view of the world. atheists do not believe there is such a thing as a creator, and view the world through that lens. that doesn’t tell you everything about their world view, but neither does somebody saying “im a theist” either both are a world view, or neither are, imo.
