Favorite band of all time. Hatred is the pinnacle of extreme metal to me and I still listen to it an unhealthy amount. A few things to note because I'm one of those fuckin nerds you mentioned: -Yes, the lead singer is a lawyer. Not sure what he specializes in. He spent some time working on death row in Texas iirc, so there's your true crime connection. -The band had actually had most of the sequel to Hatred for Mankind written and recorded, but the status of those files is unknown. May have been lost. One of the members told me it was nastier than HFM, if you can believe that. Justin Bartlett already created the album artwork for it in the same style as the original. -There is a video of an unreleased song they performed at Damnation Fest. They said it was only to be played once. Starts at 2:30. kzitem.info/news/bejne/z617uKKBmGKSqYo -Fuck Prosthetic records -The band just opened their own studio in England inside a 140 year old church.

This is probably obvious as hell, and someone already figured this out, but the release date for Plainfield/Monarch of Scum is 11/12/1934 which is the birthdate of Charles Manson. Manson was detained at a boys' home in Plainfield, Indiana before moving around and eventually landing in California. Also the artwork for the song is a picture from the Jonestown Massacre. I heard of DIS for the first time seeing them live in 2017 supporting Mayhem and Asphyx. The show was quite appealing to me (esp. them standing with their backs turned to the audience caught my attention) but somehow they didn't impress me enough and they flew under my radar, and that's something that I regret the most, because now I am a huge fan of the band and it's very hard to see them live. I came back to their music when Prosthetic released TA2 and I loved it. Also the ambient part of the song somehow brought me back to the live show I saw and brought the best memories from it. Then I listened to HFM and it blew me away so much that since then it is my all time favorite metal album of all time.

Great Video. About the name: I never gave it too much thought because it was pretty obvious to me. Depressed and misanthropic people do not like to go outside and be in the sun. There's always something dragging you out there, to the sun, to the world, to your job... You'd much rather stay home and close all the shades. The other thing is, that you're such a vampire who lives in darknes and obscurity that if they drag you out into sunlight you'll be destroyed. It's about the anguish of having to perform in the "real" world and It's a great name for a band. Keep up the great work!

I've always thought the true crime aspect regarding the samples in Hatred for Mankind we're incredibly cool and interesting. Like the aspect of murder remained from the death metal influence although slightly lessened in gory brutality at least to focus on the deranged and misanthropic face to black metal. Its sort of disappointing to me actually that there aren't many other black metal bands that take a thematic approach to serial killers as these are two topics I particularly enjoy, or perhaps I'm just not in the know. Closest thing I can think of at the top of my head is Krieg's single "Patrick Bateman", although that's just a title and fictional.

In my opinion, Dragged Into Sunlight is a PERFECT band. Dragged Into Sunlight takes all my favorite aspects of heavy music and blends them into an absolutely CRUSHING wall of sonic ugliness. Their music is ALL BALLS without compromise. The way they "hide" their identities could EASILY be used as a cringe gimmick by a lesser band but DIS are professional ASF and put ALL the focus on the music. Hatred For Mankind is my favorite heavy album of all time and that's saying A LOT. And what a time for that record to release! Heavy music was on the decline BIG time and, out of nowhere, Dragged Into Sunlight and NAILS drop their debut full-lengths less than a year apart from each other! I'll end my rant with... Dragged Into Sunlight is a band that has every right to be pretentious, elitist a**holes but they're anything but! Their approach to being a band and making music is something ANY band could learn from and be inspired by Ps: RIP Justin Bartlett the dude who did the Hatred For Mankind album cover art and a bunch of other art for the band.
