Big thx for the awesome info, is G1 still the newest family? I want to buy high end cams for my house which ones you advice?

Hi, yes the G1 Family is still the latest & current core camera range, the G1 Family includes EasyIP 2.0+, EasyIP 3.0, and the ColorVu EasyIP 4.0 cameras (2xx7). The EasyIP 4.0 AcuSense cameras (2xx6) are part of a slightly different family (G1+M) because they require specialist firmware for their AcuSense smart features, but they are still part of the latest EasyIP 4.0 range.

The G1 series has now been confused further by the renaming (from what I can tell) of several cameras to have G0 in the name! So for example, the DS-2CD2385FWD-I is now the DS-2CD2383G0-I, and the DS-2CD2355FWD-I in now the DS-2CD2363G0-I (now sold as a 6MP cam even though the "old" 5MP cam always had a 6MP sensor in it anyway, the full 6MP of which were enabled in a firmware update late last year so hardware wise this is definitely the same cam). More confusing too, the latest G1 firmware lists the "new" models as for example DS-2CD3383G0-I instead of DS-2CD2383G0-I for the 8MP turret. Try googling DS-2CD3383G0-I and you won't find it (other than mentioned in that firmware release note - and maybe now on this KZitem comment).

Hi, We can understand your confusion with the latest updates to the G1 series as we ourselves were very confused by the addition of cameras with G0 in the product code, but there are a few things from your comment that I would like to clarify for you to help you understand the changes Hikvision have made. First of all the new models with G0 in the code are NOT replacing the 2xx5 models, the new G0 models are actually part of a new range called EasyIP 2.0+. Now as you'll know if you have watched the above video the cameras with 2xx5 in the code are referred to as EasyIP 3.0 cameras, this is the big change that Hikvision is making, they are now labelling all ranges, new and old, with the EasyIP branding (e.g. the R6 [2442] cameras are now referred to by Hikvision as EasyIP 2.0, the even older and now obsolete R0 family is referred to as EasyIP 1.0, and on the horizon in the next few months is the new EasyIP 4.0 range). This is where it gets more confusing because although the new 2.0+(G0) cameras are the latest to be released they are not the best cameras, they are actually designed as a replacement to the 2.0(R6) cameras and so actually come in under the EasyIP 3.0 cameras. We can understand why you think they are replacing the G1 cameras as they are so technically similar and you are right that there is very little difference, the only thing we found is that the new EasyIP 2.0+ cameras have fewer smart VCA features than the existing 3.0 cameras. Like you we totally agree that this new move by Hikvision has further complicated their already complicated range, but the move was forced on us so we just have to try our best to explain how it all works, I would recommend scrolling through the pinned threads on our Hikvision forum as there are some individual posts explaining how the new EasyIP branding works - www.use-ip.co.uk/forum/forums/hikvision.49/

Interesting. Why then is the DS-2CD2355FWD-I, for example, being discontinued? What are the "fewer smart VCA features than the existing 3.0 cameras"? The only smart VCA function I can see on my EasyIP 3.0 cam that's not listed in your thread on EasyIP 2.0+ is Scene Change Detection, which I've never used anyway tbh.

As far as we are aware the 2355 is not being discontinued, where did you see this being reported? do you have a link? The main difference that we have noticed is that Easy IP 2.0+ has less smart features than Easy IP 3.0. Easy IP 2.0+ - Line crossing detection, intrusion detection Easy IP 3.0 - Line crossing detection, intrusion detection, unattended baggage detection, object removal detection

On my DS-2CD2385FWD-I and DS-2CD2185FWD-IS with the latest firmware I don't see Unattended Baggage and Object Removal, but perhaps as with Face Detection, they are incompatible with h254+/h265+ hence why they are not shown? My supplier told me lst time I tried to get some 5 MP cams that there were none left and that the DS-2CD2363G0-I was the replacement. Also, see here (not my supplier): www.cctvwholesales.co.uk/ds-2cd2355fwd-i.html (End-Of-Line sticker) and here: www.cctvempire.co.uk/CCTV-IP/Cameras-IP-5MP-Easy-IP-3.0/DS-2CD2355FWD-I (listed under the 'Clearance' section)

It may be the case that some smart features are only currently compatible with H.264 because the datasheet definitely states that they have those features. I don't believe the 3.0 cameras are going EOL, I have searched around the web and the site you have linked appears to be the only site making the 3.0 cameras EOL, I think some sellers may have decided as the ranges are so similar to just sell 2.0+ and not sell 3.0 cameras anymore, as of now the 3.0 cameras are still available and we have heard nothing from Hikvision saying that they plan to make these cameras EOL.

Hi, Unfortunately, HikVision chose to reorganise their European Downloads Portal the very same week that we produced our video to explain it! They have removed the helpful spreadsheet that enabled you to check which camera firmware family your camera belongs to. We’ve uploaded a copy to this thread at our Forum: www.use-ip.co.uk/forum/threads/hikvision-downloads.1945/

Hi, that is a thermal camera and so uses completely different firmware - www.hikvisioneurope.com/portal/?dir=portal/Technical%20Materials/09%20%20Thermal/01%20Product%20Firmware - I couldn't identify which firmware would work this specific model but I would have a look and see if any of the current firmware in the above folder match what you are already running.

Hi, this question is not related to this video and this channel only deals with IP technology and not analog DVRs, we would advise posting your question to our forum and seeing if anyone can offer support - www.use-ip.co.uk/forum/

Hi, No these cameras are not Dahua, some Dahua & Hikvision cameras do have visual similarities but at the same time, there are lots of little design differences.

you're welcome, we have never sold Dahua so we couldn't really say which is better, but Hikvision is the no.1 brand in the world (closely followed by Dahua) and if we were to recommend one model above all else it would be the turret models (either 2355 or 2385), Hikvision were first master this style of camera and the image quality you get from these models, both day and night, would be hard to beat with any other similarly priced camera.
