@@moneyhouse-dc8ze From examples I've seen, they were mainly used for code reusability, updated code, code organization, and easy collaboration with multiple developers. I think I definitely could have done a better job showing more use cases and showed more visuals of developers using them. Thank you for your input!

It is interesting this kind of videos explaining old roblox features. A specific playlist for content that has nothing to do with scripting courses, could be interesting, for example videos about recent roblox updates, features that will be added in the future, or unknown things, could give a touch to the channel

Yo brawl, what kind of cs are you studying in college? Like just a general cs program or a different specialized stream? Also, where did you learn about Lua/Roblox studio the most? Did you take some online course or it's from learning and experimenting with the platform? Btw really love your videos man, you actually explain the WHY in ur videos and thats something not many roblox devs are doing
@BrawlDevRBLX

General CS. There's different electives I can take to specialize in what aligns with my interests, but it's mostly a wide range of topics and courses in the curriculum. It was a mix of watching youtube videos, reading the dev forum for specific issues I had and also surf around, read the documentation, and of course making games lol. Thank you for watching my videos bro! :)

Raycasting is just sending out an invisible laser from a vector3 in a specific direction and length, and can detect if the invisible laser "hits" a basePart/terrain/npc, etc. For a simple example, using a raycast of 3 studs when the player clicks their tool, we can detect if the raycast hit anything, and if so, check if its a humanoid. If so, damage that humanoid. A more detailed explanation below. It's like shining a laser pointer/flashlight in a specific direction and seeing where it hits an object. Raycasting has 3 main properties. Origin: Where the ray starts, equivalent to the position of your flashlight in your hand. (e.g., the position of a player's eyes or a gun's barrel). Direction: Which way the ray points, determined by which way you point the flashlight. (e.g., straight ahead, towards a cursor, or any other direction in 3d) Length: How far your flashlight can reach or see. Basic functionality of using raycasting. Use the Raycast method, specifying the origin, direction, and optionally, parameters that dictate how the ray should behave (like ignoring certain objects or only hitting specific materials) Analyze the Result: If the ray hits an eligible BasePart or Terrain cell, a RaycastResult object is returned containing the results such as Distance, Instance(part or terrain it hit), the enum.material, Position of the hit (where jimmy hit you with a stick), etc. Here's how i'd get a good understanding of raycasting in a real-life example. Press R to fire a raycast, and it'll return the raycastResults of whatever it hit. local UserInputService = game:GetService("UserInputService") local Workspace = game:GetService("Workspace") -- Function to perform raycasting local function performRaycast() local player = game.Players.LocalPlayer local camera = Workspace.CurrentCamera local rayOrigin = camera.CFrame.Position -- Ray starts at the camera's position local rayDirection = camera.CFrame.LookVector * 1000 -- Cast the ray 1000 studs in the direction the camera is facing local raycastParams = RaycastParams.new() raycastParams.FilterDescendantsInstances = {player.Character} -- Usually exclude the player's own character raycastParams.FilterType = Enum.RaycastFilterType.Exclude -- Perform the raycast local raycastResult = Workspace:Raycast(rayOrigin, rayDirection, raycastParams) if raycastResult then print("Hit:", raycastResult.Instance.Name) print("Hit Position:", raycastResult.Position) print("Distance:", raycastResult.Distance) else print("No object hit by the ray.") end end -- Key press detection UserInputService.InputBegan:Connect(function(input, gameProcessedEvent) if gameProcessedEvent then return end -- Ignore input already processed by the game if input.KeyCode == Enum.KeyCode.R then performRaycast() -- Trigger the raycast function end end)

Ray cast tutorial please
@a_username_lol
5 ай бұрын
workspace:Raycast(pos, direction, optional raycast params) "pos" mean the vector3 position of where the ray starts from, "direction" means the vector3 direction and length in which the raycast will go to, for example vector3.new(10, 0, 0) would make the raycast go 10 studs forward, raycast params can be created by RaycastParams.new() u can store the params object in a variable to then set stuff like RaycastParams.IgnoreWater = true, if a raycast doesnt hit any object it will just return nil, otherwise it will return the position of the ray hit point, the object that the ray hit, the normal vector of where the ray hit, the distance between the starting position of the ray and where it hit, and the material of the object it hit

@@moneyhouse-dc8ze it's not bad practice, and it makes scripting easier than having to do a OOP constructor or assign tags to the instance. it just the source of the script was local to that script instead of being shared/linked to an asset, i am sure you can make a script a package and get the same exact thing of a linkedsource script
