Back in the 70s the family had a sports car shop. We did a lot of Lotus Europa cars. In the Series 1 and Series 2 the outer rear stub axels would 'roll' inside the inner ball bearing. The stubs were stupid expensive. We had a specialist shop do the spray weld build up where the base steel would roll down to undersize. We could get better fit to the inner race of the bearing, AND the life of the stub was much greater. Chapman adding lightness sometimes put stupid stress on parts. The spray welding and re sizing actually made a more desirable part. That was almost 50 years ago, and I'm sure the tools and powered metal spray alloys are better now.

Jim, I’m think you absolutely made the right choice! That car is special to you, saving a few hundred compared to a possible totaled car, injury, or death is not worth the risk. She is not setting in a museum, you driver her. You are a soul at peace! I’ve commented on Chad and Jolene’s channel how much of a treat it is when you are on! I haven’t figured out how you make money, but if you are happy and can pay your bills and eat, “Life is Good”. Stay healthy! Respectfully, Kevin from Missouri

Your doing it the best and right way Jim. My great friend in the early 80’s had a car collection and to name a few he had a couple Rolls Royces,Excalibur , Lamborghini Miura SV , Daytona Ferrari and he didn’t have the time to drive them so he came to me with the keys and said please keep them driven. I was a 23 year old rocker so I was having the time of my life going clubbing in Newport Beach and Hollywood Ca.. The one I drove most was the Daytona which had 2 megaphones on the exhaust and was so loud since shifting was at 5000 rpm and you could hear it from a mile away. Awesome car but the Daytona have terrible brakes.

You are right, Jim. According to my experiences, spray welding is not good enough when you have large forces and torques. If you weld you have other issues. Hardening will go out and it is always risk for cracs. Always interesting to here and see from You. Excuse my English but I am from Sweden.
