Honest opinion, I think trubish and garboder are waaay too overheated, the only thing I dislike on garboder is just that his arms are on different levels, other than that, I genuinely looks good, and I think is a way better grimer/muk replacement in the sence that garboder and trubish actually look significantly different and not just like the first stage got fatter. Vanilite is OK, but I think they could have shown better that it's an icicle covered in snow, maybe not have the face on the snow that is covering its body, and a bit of a different face, silly pokemon are fine, but it needs a contrast in personality, looks, concept or something, Vanilite is silly all around, there is no contrast in it that can offset the silly in my opinion, if it had a more mischievous face or it kidnaped children like driftloon, I think it would have been less hated

The Vanillite line aren't even real ice cream. They're just icicles covered in snow. Though I imagine the ice cream shapes and the simple cutesy faces are meant to invoke the image of old-fashioned restaurant mascots - y'know, classic kitschy Americano. And hey, maybe Ghost is one of my favorite types because they can reasonably be just about anything - dolls, yokai, balloons, coffins, candles, jack-o-lanterns, piles of sand, costumers, tea sets, stealth bombers, Izanami dragon, etc.

Fun fact: The German names of Honedge and Duoblade make some additional references to mythical swords. Honedge's name, Gramokles, references yet another sword from norse mythology, Gram, which was used by Sigurd to slay the dragon Fafnir. The name Gramokles, and also, Duokles, Duoblade's german name, also reference the Sword of Damocles, which is pretty fitting. These Pokemon are literal Swords of Damocles, constantly putting their own weilder's life at threat by absorbing their life energy. (also Aegislash's name is Durengard which is probably a reference to the Durendal)

I think otherwise. Personally I think Megas undermine the core concept of Pokémon evolution, where each stage is a separate character and not simply an animal growing older. Jigglypuff has notable design differences from Wigglytuff, and while you can understand they’re connected, Wigglytuff isn’t literally just Jigglypuff but more mature looking, it has the bunny ears and feet and that adds a new layer. Same reason why a lot of mid stage starters have random additions that then disappear, Charmeleon’s red skin, Croconaw’s caveman aesthetic, Raboot’s pocket. Megas a lot of the time just kinda added stuff on to a Pokémon. No real change, cause obviously it’s a form change not a proper evolution. The downside of this though is when you try to make a Mega for a Pokémon in a complete line with a finished concept and are unable to expand on it. Sure you could make “cooler Flygon” but you might also not do the design enough Justice or cater enough to fan demand. That’s what happened with Charizard and Mewtwo, then 1-3 months later they revealed “Heyyy, here’s the Mega X forms that just so happen to be everything the fans have been demanding in their outrage.” My point is Flygon is a wonderful Pokémon with a completed concept, just like Tyranitar, Metagross, and Garchomp. Adding a mega isn’t adding a new layer to the cake, it’s just injecting more cake into the layer that already exists. I’ve heard some argue “well they could make it a Bug type!” but I feel like for a Mega Flygon that would just be a direct downgrade as it loses STAB on ground moves, can’t learn many amazing bug moves, and trades it’s okay weakness spread for a whole bunch of new ones.

On your point about Oda Nobunaga, well, as much as he's romanticized as a villain due to even calling himself the "demon king," what people don't get is that what he did, unlike the likes of Adolf Hitler or other cruel leaders, wasn't anything that other daimyou of the time period wouldn't do, as samurai actually tended to be very cruel, themselves; much as Night Slash's inspiration of a samurai assassinating an innocent person at night to test their new blade. Plus, him calling himself the "demon king" was actually purely in sarcasm and satire in response to Takeda Shingen in a letter calling himself the "head priest of the Tendai sect monks," when in reality, Shingen wasn't even a believer in the Tendai sect, let alone their "head priest." Thus, Nobunaga was basically flipping Shingen the bird and saying, "Pfft, 'head priest,' my foot. If you're the head priest of a sect that you don't even frickin' follow in the first place, then I'm the demon king of the Sixth Heaven."

Honestly I don’t get why people hate on humanoid Pokémon, especially the starters. It’s like unfair that Pokémon like Blaziken who’s despite looking like a dude in a suit gets praised and love for looking cool yet Pokémon like Cinderace get the “it’s looks like furry bait” insult. Like seriously they’re both bipedal from start to finish so I don’t understand the hate.

@@kaitogirldraws But at least the Scorbunny line makes more sense for why it’s a humanoid. Like little rabbit that loves playing soccer evolving into a sports mascot makes way more sense compared to a baby chick evolving into a man bird because it knows kung fu.

So like, people remember that “monsters” is part of the title? Sure, there are some wild designs that might be a bit weaker, but they all look like monsters to me! … For example, Ceruledge deserves hands… How can they give me a hug without them? Yeah, my opinions on Pokemon design is pretty niche lmao

25:05 Durendal gives the german name of Aegislash its name. It's called Durengard. So the sword/attack part of the name is from Durendal and the shield/protect part is "gard" which is similar or the same to the english guard.

The hate for object Pokémon really is so overblown and basically ignoring the Pokémon we had since gen 1. Also, I didn’t think about how a curse and or living sword is a pretty common trope.

Honestly I looove the Aegislash line and I hope it gets regional and/or "paradox" variants in the future. Like, an Honedge that actually looks like a katana, or a "future" Honedge that's basically a lightsaber. Or maybe a "hammer" version to pay tribute to Mjolnir, to be wielded by a variant of Tinkaton.

To be honest, all I want from Mega Evolution is a "generic Mega Stone" of sorts. Doesn't change the Pokemon's form, maybe 20 points for each stat or 30 in the two highest stats and 20 in the next two highest, but still allows Pokemon teams without one of the 20 popular Pokemon to utilize the mechanic. This isn't saying this will replace the Mega Evolution, just giving mons without the special rocks to still "mega-evolve"

Some of the Aegislash hate might be people being salty about it being introduced when it was. In Gen 6, Steel lost its resistances to Ghost and Dark, making Aegislash weak to those types instead of it being neutral.

This is my favorite line of Pokémon, particularly because it's just a sword lol Jokes aside, I genuinely love Aegislash's design. Not only is it BOTH of my favorite types, it has an awesome shiny too! Its gimmick is also just so cool! My own love of Swords and the like probably also makes me a little biased. Plus, the image of a King or Knight wielding a Pokémon into battle is pretty sick, especially with fitting Armor and scarves. Aegislash is so cool, literally my only issue is that I think all Protect attacks should switch its Stance, instead of just King's Shield. Edit: Today I learned, the Vikings accidentally invented Steel O.O

The connection to Gilgamesh could have more merit. Gilgamesh was a king and warrior with no need for a sword, while aegislash is a kingly sword with no need for a warrior, since it can float around and fight on its own. It’s not the only time a Pokémon is an inversion of its origin, like fomantis. Or maybe I’m overthinking
@billybrown9185

It's possible that Aegislashs Japanese name is more of a reference to Gilgamesh in Final Fantasy, who's whole thing is that he shows up in a bunch of the games looking for legendary weapons.

Pomemon- as monsters- can literally be anything. And people who criticise modern object 'mon have to realise that their beloved Voltorb is one of such as well (and I don't think they're capable of that). What I'm saying is- people who often criticise modern designs often won't say a singular bad word about old (especially gen I) 'mon. So, a flying sword ghost is "boring and uninspired", but a literal basic everyday rat (™) is okay? Pokemon don't have to be animals, and some- like the Violet Paradox 'mon- took the full advantage of that fact to create truly amazing designs... just to be met with hate from everybody who can't accept that this franshise is moving forward and doesn't necesserily follow the same design choices that it used to in 1996- though even that isn't true since *object 'mon have been around since the beginning and nobody criticised them back then.* Alright, rant over. Can't wait to get yelled at in the replies.
