Here’s a small add on to this lore as a guess also don’t blame me if I am completely wrong I have never played the game because when a prime soul is starting to form you said the husk grows and that the hell energy is an alternate fuel source to blood and gods light keeps the angels alive what if gods desire and will to create the perfect race with free will made him go insane and when he disappeared is when all things started to go down hill what if gods husk is hell and his light is from his prime soul that way the council is keeping gods prime soul so they can live and god going insane is why hell wants entertainment and that’s why hell is being destroyed when we v1 kill almost everything on the floors we’re just destroying gods husk and the hell energy is the remains of gods light from his soul and since he’s an imperfect being it makes sense

Simple correction: The Earthmover we fight in 7-4 is NOT being powered by the roots in the ground. Hakita has confirmed that the roots in the ground in 7-4 are from the 4 trees you fed in 7-3, you fed them so they'll help you out and keep the Earthmover still just so you don't get trampled AND further more give more entertainment for hell other than just immediately getting squished, the hell energy is most likely given throughout hell's air, hence why the enemy spawn animation isn't coming from within the ground.

The idea of hell energy being alternative fuel also works because the player, being V1, can heal off parrying projectiles, which clearly do not bleed, but projectiles such as those thrown by the stray are canonically formed of hell energy, so the fact that V1 can heal to 100% of his health off a single projectile parry implies they can somehow heal off of them even though they do not bleed.

One major thing, the fact that the prelude, made in earth, can be controlled by hell as evidenced by the husks being teleported around and doors being messed with, shows that either the prelude is in hell or that hell has spread and taken over at least some of earth
@bluestar_kun

It would make sense that Hell has taken over Earth. Before humans found the gate the only way for them to interact with Hell was to die (or so I assume). Opening the gate would be the same as building a bridge, and Hell as a sentient being, would be able to cross it. I wonder how much energy Hell contains tho. Like is Hell Energy meant to be on par with God's Light? Practically infinite but can only be controlled by those given direct power to?

The ferryman's diary states that there was a steady flow of millions of dead every day (possibly the final war?) until one day, the river Styx swelled into an ocean, with billions of dead pouring in, completely overwhelming the layer and creating the ocean we see ingame. I think that this is Hell entering the Earth and essentially instantly killing every human alive.

I think this is how they went extinct with the latter thought. Hell expanded to earth, consumed it even, and gave itself a new land to conquer. God isnt dead, in one of the terminals, he says "I stared into the abyss, and the abyss averted its gaze". The original use of the "I stared into the abyss and the abyss stared back" sentence was (if I remember correctly) refering to suicide (or just death in general) beckoning to the writer. Here the abyss shys away from God's gaze, and I interpret that as God not being able to die at all. Death itself looks away from him (EDIT: I misremembered the meaning of the quote, read @BlaaankOwl 's response) Probably been said before, but the growths trapping the Earthmover we fight are confirmed to be the roots of the blood trees we help grow in a previous level, which means the Earthmovers must get their hell energy from a different source, maybe its even just directly deposited into them by Hell One of the biggest pieces of proof that V1 was made specifically to counter Earthmovers is that V1 was made during the Final War, after the Earthmovers. Every machine designed during the final war was made to counter the last, and V1 came after the Earthmovers, which implies it was made to counter them Pastrami
@BlaaankOwl
2 ай бұрын
That's not quite the original meaning of "staring into the abyss and the abyss staring back". The phrase was originally coined by Frederich Nietzsche, with the full quote roughly translating as _"He who fights monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."_ With the intended meaning being less about death, and more about hatred driving people to become like the things they hate. It's definitely still implied by Testament V that God attempted - and failed - to end his own existence. But I think I'd interpret the invocation of "staring into the abyss", followed by "the abyss averting its gaze", not just as God lamenting death's refusal to give him the mercy of oblivion, but as God articulating his own feelings of utter self-hatred and existential despair after realising how far he has fallen. That what he has done is so abjectly cruel and unforgivable that his sins now outweigh those of humanity, the race he condemned to eternal torment for simply daring to survive after he abandoned them.

My thoughts on humanity's extinction: Firstly, the fact that the new peace clearly took place over decades or even centuries rules out the idea of the machine insurrection, as they wouldve run out of blood very quickly so humanity would not have enough time to even begin Hell expeditions Secondly, we see in Wrath that the reason it became an ocean is because humanity was killed ALL AT ONCE, spewing souls out into Hell. This means that humanity's extinction likely wouldve had to have been an attack from an immensely powerful being (Hell) that couldve wiped out humanity in one fell swoop Furthermore, the fact that the Prelude, which is on the surface, is in Hell's influence, means it could be implied that Hell's influence covered all of Earth, allowing husks and demons to freely wreak havoc upon Earth. This would also explain how Hell was able to reach the earthmovers, and teleport them all the way to violence (as they clearly couldnt have fit through the gates of Hell) The most likely theory for humanity's extinction is probably Hell, however 2 major plot holes do come to rise: 1: If husks and demons were now on Earth, machines wouldnt need to go to Hell for blood, and I also think that the angels would have attempted to stop hellspawn from evading their punishments up on Earth. 2: Hell seemingly wanted expeditions to continue for the sake of learning about humanity and just general sadism from tormenting expedition crews. I doubt it would have wanted to kill its favourite playthings. If Hell was that impulsive, V1 would be dead very quickly upon entering Hell. Anyways, Hakita is a totally insane genius and I imagine hes cooked up a plot point that noone is expecting. He tends to work that way.

18:44 Hell energy is also used for enemy projectiles. Mindflayers are machines that can use hell energy and shoot the same kind of projectile that demons, husks use. 37:24 Someone mentioned that maybe blood is the most efficient since no other sources exist (anymore ig). I think its that and the fact that blood fuel has been used and developed for 200 years so it's probably the best source of fuel (other sources aren't as developed most likely) 46:36 I think a lot of Ultrakill videos failed to mention that V1 doesn't kill everything. This part mentioned the extinction of layers, V1 is at heresy and only limbo and lust are "all gone" means that there're still husks and demons (and possibly machines) after V1 left those layers. So V1 just tear through the husks, demons and angels sent its way and continue to the next layer. Either Hell just refuse to teleport more enemies for V1 to fight or V1 just doesn't kill everything in the layers like a blood hungry machine. V1 also just stop attacking Gabriel and listen to his talk. If V1 can win against Gabe then it can easily kill Gabe if V1 just continue attacking but it didn't.

The projectiles being hell energy is something i just forgot lmao, i do think it's telling that mindflayers as a machine can control hell energy to some extent. Maybe other machines can? Interesting to think about. While V1 isn't the only machine in hell I do think it's incredibly telling that mere hours after V1 enters hell the layers begin going extinct. Ultrakill only takes place over a few hours as we know gabriel only has 24 hours to live after gluttony so in the short few hours after V1 entered hell layers started dying off. While it's definitely not purely V1 I do think V1 would be an exceptional case and definitely a very large contributor to the death of the layers

Some small notes (will probably update as the video goes on): You got the formation of a Husk and a Prime Soul mixed up From the Filth’s terminal entry: “Husks are physical manifestations of the souls of the damned. The physical form is based on the value of the original soul, which is determined by the strength of its will *and its prevalence in public consciousness: the living souls that remember it.* Filth are the lowest form of Husk, whose souls were too weak and unimportant to even form a complete physical body.” From Minos Prime’s terminal entry: “As manifestations of *pure will,* souls are incredibly powerful, to the point that even the prideful angels see them as a threat and will use any means necessary to stop them from forming.” To say that Minos and Sisyphus “formed into Prime Souls” is also misleading. If a person’s will is strong enough, their soul is already a Prime Soul. It just needs time to take shape when its Husk is destroyed. 21:05 As confirmed in the dev commentary stream, thise growths in the floor are the leaves of the trees from the previous level locking it in place for you. 28:26 Streetcleaners and Drones were made post-war. I think it’s a safe assumption that no amount of Streetcleaners could clean faster than the Earthmovers could destroy, so your idea that they could come from before the end of the war is a dud. Even if they were that good at cleaning, humanity was still of the mindset that every machine had to be stronger than the last at that point. Streetcleaners were explicitly made to clean up the long night and Drones were made for security but we know they were a recent enough invention to also be used as scouts for the Hell expeditions. 34:10 “Machine created to create the machine” is not meant to be taken literally, it’s a poetic way of saying “Each machine was only created to counter the previous one, therefore through Hell’s twisted perspective the machines are only to have an excuse for the mext one to be made.” The Final War was 100% an act of humanity and to say otherwise would be antithetical to their role in the story. 37:23 Machines are good at their jobs, there are barely any humans left, and the ines that are left are barely holding on after the war. 39:40 Where else would it take place? Space travel would’ve never been invented because of the war, and we see in 6-2 that Heaven exists across the planets like it does in Paradiso.

Thanks for taking such interest in the video! I'd like to give a little bit of a more indepth view into where my ideas came from for these points in the video. These are, to be fair, mostly my own personal headcanons with little evidence to support them so you're completely free to disagree with what I said lol I could've worded my bit on the Prime souls better to be fair, when saying they "form into a prime soul" I intended to mean that they were taking shape but I could've definitely made that more clear, and yeah I totally mixed up the part about their strength coming from the will of the people alongside their own will rather than it just being purely themselves. The streercleaners are a very interesting case because their time of creation is as far as I know, never actually specified. The closest we get it the line "they were made obsolete during the new peace". I could be wrong and missing some piece of text but this phrase is what makes me believe that they were made towards the very end of the final war. Considering that they were successful in cleaning up the atmosphere it's entirely probable that they could outpace the earthmovers destruction, managing to clean up the entire atmosphere is an insane achievement that would require a huge amount of efficiency. Obviously this would entirely depend on how long it actually took to clean up the long night and also how many Earthmovers and streetcleaners existed, it's at the very least within the realm of possibility. Plus the concept of them actually being made to prolong the war is interesting to think about :P I do realise that the book in 7-4 is supposed to be more superfluous than literal but it does make sense to me that the final wars arms race would eventually become fully automated. It would make sense to have some form of machine designing machines to keep up with such a frantic arms race but that's obviously just my personal headcanon with no real evidence outside of this very literal reading. That's a fair point actually I can't argue with that lol I mean yeah Prelude does most likely take place on earth like I said but there isn't anything explicitly confirming that so I didn't want to just jump in there and go "Yeah this is Earth" for definite.

I don't like the idea that the Earthmover is technically from the Great War. I also find it very poetic that the "War to End All Wars" actually did end all wars in this universe, albeit not as intended. Imagine God returning, possibly millenia later, to find nothing but bodies and husks of multiple civilizations. There would be no Heaven, no Hell, and most importantly, no Humanity. The only remains would be the decayed remains of Hell, a reclaimed Earth, and a empty Heaven, the only remain being the armor of an unknown angel.

28:50 is the guttermen can't be a Russian creation as the eastern front, aka, the Russian front didn't have trenchs due to the geography of European russia, and there is the detail that russia was two steps behind the rest of the world technologically, with little to no industrialization, and the fact thta russia ran out of rifles in the first year of the war, the guttermen would probably be either a German design or a American desing being used by the western members of the entent, ie, britain and france, with the guttermen being most likely an entente weapon, being a stand-in for the tank, as when the tank was first used in combat it lead to an arms race between the entente and the central powers

It’s honestly really interesting to think about guttermen as a concept, a being that can only exist through the pain and torture of another that is just now becoming sentient and realizing that their very existence is hurting someone else, the fact that the gutterman that wrote the poem immediately worked to find an alternate power source and once they did killing the tortured soul speaks to the fact that these guttermen are victims of their own creation in a way

5:10 the concept of a god being flawed and non-omnipotent is actually very common, especially outside of monotheistic religions. In most Judeo-Christian schools of thought, God is seen as infallible and righteous because he is only wrathful under the condition that humanity has committed a perceived wrong. God’s volatility is a direct consequence of _human_ action. But if we take an example like Hera from Greek theology, emotionality’s confluence with godhood and their relationships with humanity is evidently more complex. Zeus fucks up, Hera finds out about it (usually thru a third party), she takes out her wrath on humans. Volatility as a consequence of _another god’s_ actions. Hera’s reaction is logically flawed - of course she knows that Zeus has all the power in any dalliance with a human - but that’s her husband, and human lives are naturally short anyhow. She’s temperamental and deeply selfish, but she’s still a god and still worshipped despite (or sometimes even because of) those traits. Like most gods in polytheistic religions, the _only_ thing separating them from humans is power, which is given to the gods by the humans that worship them. It’s a reciprocal balancing act that’s heavily reflected in secular human civilization.

One thing that kind of bugs me about V1's current role (As it could be changed) and it's purpose for traveling to hell, is the fact it is simply doing so to refuel itself with blood. I would like to elaborate and point out, we know machines are self aware, due to them running off of blood. With that being the case, if it were V1's sole purpose, what purpose would it have for going through the different layers so quickly? Why would it have sought it Minos or Syphasus, or blatantly ignored Gabriel's demands? Why wouldn't V1 just stay in one layer, and keep killing, especially since Hell consistently teleports beings to it? I'm hoping and assuming eventually we'll be given a real purpose, but it seems to me, V1 has much more purpose for being in hell than just simply refueling itself. I'm honestly kind of surprised more people haven't pointed this out in the comment. (I could just not being seeing them but I have yet to see this stated)
