I feel getting the teachers guides really makes it a full curriculum. Tons of games and utilizing the 1/2 books as well.

We've used this alongside AAR Level 1, and it's provided additional fluency. We're only on lesson 6 and wrapping up the first vowel sound in Explode the Code, but so far my kiddo has been liking the pace we're working at. It's built confedence in the words she already knows. I challenge her a little and cover some of the images until she's identified the word, and then show her the images and ask her if she's identified a word that matches the picture. Since we're pacing it with AAR, it seems we're on pause in Explode the Code until we learn a new vowel sound, but my kiddo loved the Get Ready For The Code last year, and requested to continue with Explode the Code. I'm glad we did it and will most likely be adding Beyond the Code at some point as well.

This is how we use it too. We reinforce the AAR concepts with explode/beyond the code. The two seem to work well together and it has been helping to build our daughter’s confidence.

What level would you recommend for a student who’s in AAR3 and AAR4?

It looks like Explode the Code 6 will be a review of material from AAR3. And ETC 8 more in line with AAR4. We haven’t done a detailed comparison (which might be a good topic for another video…) but from a scope overview this looks close. We have found areas where it doesn’t match up perfectly in the earlier levels but overall for the cost it’s been a great tool to help reinforce our daughter’s AAR learning and build her confidence. Hope that helps!
