After training many times in Okinawa, that’s so true.

Nice talk my friend. I did things the easy way, I just learned Japanese and called the guys I wanted to meet having gotten their numbers from mutual acquaintances. Not that hard, really, as you say. I only really got turned down by one guy that day, who I later met "unexpectedly" at a world tournament where I had a mutual friend introduce me "coincidentally." Now we are drinking buddies.

Do you think the instructors are aware of these third parties?

This is really prevalent in all associations/ styles. However, I think the Oki’s deserve our respect and maybe while students are over their training they should voice these changes with their older Oki Sensei’s. And show what they’ve learned and how it translates in Goju practices (I know you are a Goju practitioner). I’ve cross trained in a lot of other styles and always correlate it back with Goju training.
