FEV North America, Inc this technology is fascinating to me. I bet this system would be excellent on (well, almost all ICE's w/pistons) but especially small, turbocharged engines like in the Chevrolet Cruze, Fiat 500, and other mighty minis. I hope to see this tech become mainstream! If nothing else, maybe such units could be sold aftermarket to auto enthusiasts? ;) keep up the good work!

Hey, Mr FEV. This is really interesting - probably the most interesting new tech idea I've seen for a while. The video doesn't tell us much at all though. Can you tell us excactly how it works in more detail? How much variation in piston height it can do. Have you tested it in any working engines yet? Is there a technical paper on this?

Kj16V Hi Kj16V, I found a Site from FEV where you can get detailed information about this con-rod: look @ vcr.fev.com/

Hans Actually, that website is how I came across this video! But thanks for taking time to let me know.

imagine being an engineer being part of a team and spending years developing the best part ever made to respond to the need of variable compression ratio engine and then the keyboard experts come. :/

can you imagine trying to balance these? you have to do it for all states of movement. also, the piston throw with it being eccentric wrist pin, wouldn't that put more strain on the rod? bending it the wrong way? you'd have to line the off center downwards force in the direction of the turning crank..

Well given the eccentric is on the proper side and the piston a bit offset in respect to the crank shaft, it even helps with transferring the peak force in a more vertical manner and minimizing tangential force losses. Infinity and Nissan illustrate that in their variable compression engine concept too. Check it out.

Kj16V lol! :) tbh i have hard enough time figuring out how to fit a turbo let alone calibrate and install this puppy!

Well that's nice but more parts to break down and more weight.

Why auto makers and parts makers want to make parts more complicated i dont understand. Adding another weak link. Sounds like a good idea for new tech. Looks cool sounds innovative. But it is not a good idea. If we are going to make a break through in tech in ice engine. We need to find a way of changing engines from transfer of energy. From piston moving down pushing the crank. To somthing truly less complex. Duke industry's in Australia is trying. German compressor is trying. Mazdas rotory. That is probably a better step for technology.
