This is basically a mini documentary wow, seriously the time, effort, editing, etc that was put into this is amazing. I really enjoy how you’re not sugar coating or focusing solely on the more stereotypical tourist elements of New York City! As someone who’s never really been I feel like I’ve gotten to spend a day in the city LOL. Also makes me want to explore/appreciate the lesser known parts of my city as well instead of waiting to travel elsewhere. Kinda like appreciate what you have now instead of waiting and living for an uncertain future.

As a third generation native New Yorker, I really appreciated this. Not sure if this was intentional, but it was a complete 180 from the apartment tour video you posted of some New York transplants which, in my opinion, were not the people to highlight in speaking about Bushwick. I love how you celebrate the richness in culture and diversity of all the five boroughs of New York City and capture this from a local's perspective.

This was so thoughtfully done! I love how you highlighted the history of both the culture and the neighborhood as well as the importance of supporting local businesses in Chinatown. As a Dominican New Yorker from the Bronx, I would love to see you do one on Dominican/Puerto Rican neighborhoods in NYC! Especially since the local businesses (and overall culture) in those areas like Washington heights/LES/Spanish Harlem are being negatively affected by the pandemic and gentrification as well

Chinatown was my favorite part of going to NYC. It was so nice to see the family-run shops and restaurants as opposed to the big chains and gentrified cafes of the rest of Manhattan. The culture is so rich and it really makes you feel welcome. If this video didn't already convince you (unlikely) you should make Chinatown a lifetime bucket-list place to visit!

It’s funny because since I came across your channel, I identify myself so much with you, but I couldn’t explain why. I guess in terms of values and approach towards life in general. And now finding out your mum was an Iranian immigrant and you grew up in France (pretty much the same as me, my mother is an Iranian who immigrated in Belgium as a child and my father is French), it makes so much sense ! I always think it’s funny when you identify yourself with people you think you have nothing in common with, but then you realize common cultures always play a little role (not in an obvious « here are my traditions » way but more subtly, in the way of being/thinking). Anyways I love your videos, thanks for being a little ray of sunshine ! ☀️

Elena, this was AMAZING. I am always wowed by the quality of your videos but this one... I mean seriously, when did you attend mental film school bc you totally have an eye for this stuff!!! Like the other comments have said, this was so inspiring and special, just to see a youtuber do something different and super valuable, meaningful, informative and HELPING people but in a unique way that’s not “oh let’s all donate to x cause!” That kind of action is great, but this can really make such a huge difference since it digs through all the layers of so many different issues (not to mention literally just being helpful to viewers by demystifying the overwhelming chaos that is NYC!!) and is so personal. Sorry for the rant, just wanted you to know how much I appreciate this and how much more of this content the world needs right now, so keep it up

Such a lovely video. I really appreciate the time, effort, and consideration you put into this. However, it was disappointing to not hear Jesse mention the large fujinese population within Chinatown that has been integral to the growth and development of Chinatown starting in the 90s. From my understanding, there sometimes exists contempt and negative connotation from the Cantonese speaking community toward the fujinese community, and I’ve always felt there was a media bias toward Cantonese Chinese populations because of the fujinese community’s delayed assimilation and lower socioeconomic status. All this to say, as a person of fujinese descent who grew up in Chinatown, it sucks to see Chinatown portrayed again as a dominantly Cantonese community to the outside world, when there actually exists so many fujinese establishments, enough to even create a Little Fuzhou within Chinatown! I hope that if you ever do some coverage on Flushing, that you would find someone who can share about my often overlooked community!
