If you love getting outdoors and exploring, there's lots of ground to cover in Asheville, North Carolina! Today, I'm starting with the streams, let's go fishing!
Matt is a local angler with Brookings in nearby Casher, he's been fishing these water for over 16 years. Today we'll be fly fishing in the North Carolina Rivers. Known for their streams that come right out of the mountains, creating a good, cold, clean water that gives the perfect fishing conditions.
Fishing isn't the only water-centric activity in these mountains. The 200 mile French Broad River winds through the mountains into Downtown Asheville, providing plenty of opportunity for taking in the scenery via the water. If you want to see the water first hand, French Broad Outfitters has you covered. They can rent you kayaks or paddle boards and take you on a tour of your own. Or join up with one of their organized floats like this one.
For the more adventurous, head to the Sapphire Valley and hook up to The Vordach. This 14 element adventure course includes 12 high flying zip lines, a suspension bridge and for those who want a bit of an extra challenge, a 40 foot rappel.
For a slower pace, there are hundreds of trails available for you to explore in the nearby Pisgah National Forest and the expansive Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Along the way, make sure to check out some of the 250 plus waterfalls in this area.
From the air to the streams or even just taking a walk, the beauty of this area can be experienced any way you'd like. Now get out there!
