The Ruthven Barracks were briefly occupied by Charles Stuart's Jacobite army in 1746 before being abandoned. The Jacobites retreated here after the Battle of Culloden. Located near Badenoch, Scotland, the fort was strategically built on a hill in a highland valley. Originally built by the British to help quell the Jacobite uprisings in the 1700s. It became the last place the Bonnie Prince Charlie was at before he retreated into hiding and exile. It was incredible to step out of the car and essentially transport yourself back 276 years as the ruins are still impressively intact and made for some great exploring.
