When my mother passed away she left behind 21 acres of land and a mobile home and a car. Due to none of us wanting the mobile home it remains vacant till this day. It's been about 5 years since I have been out there. The last time I was out there I walked in on a guy who had broken into the trailer and was in a room huffing spray paint from a bag. I tackled him and sat on top of him with his hands held behind his back until the police arrived. Afterwards I looked around and realized how much damage had been done from him and who knows who else. The car had parts missing and a window broken out.I knew then that since I lived far away I couldn't come check on the place very often. My sister has put the land up for sale now after talking me into signing my part over to her. I'm sure it will be bought due to it being highway frontage country land. It was hard on me seeing my mother's home violated the way it was. That's why it's for sale now so I don't have to make anymore bad memories of going back there. Today's generation has no respect for other people's belongings and destroy it for the fun of it.

My take on this, from watching your video, is that after the roof got ripped off in the storm, the insurance company gave them a big payout for wind and water damage, etc. They may still own the property, but they've been told to just have it demolished because of the mold. They should get in there and get all those antiques cleaned up. The insurance company won't give a crap.

@@juliearmfield2634 I agree. I guess I'm just the opposite. I've been quite far removed from my parents for decades, so when my mom passed, and my dad couldn't cope, I was ready to get in there and start boxing up and taking her stuff to Goodwill (because otherwise, like the house in this video, that's what would have happened). The sad thing is, it only takes one generation to determine how important your "precious" items are to anyone else. This is why you see so many personal items at thrift stores. My parents have/had a LOT of tchochkes(?) and geegaws throughout their house, some worth money, some only worth sentimentality. But NONE of us "kids" want any of their stuff, except for maybe a few things here and there. My parents and grandparents went through the Depression, where they clung to absolutely EVERYTHING. We don't have that same mentality, so to us it's just...more junk to sort through. 😒

People abandon houses and belongings for one of two reasons: the families are too poor to deal with what’s left or too rich to deal with what’s left when someone has died. It is sad either way because the abandonment feels like the remnants of grief. I restored my great grandparents’ house after it was abandoned for 10 years following my great grandfather’s death. Many family members didn’t want me to restore it and preferred it continue to cave in because they wanted to remember it how it was, not see it brought back to life. I documented the restoration from before I cleaned it out on my YT page - The Terrell Project
