Milk delivery man Harold Campbell saw the future while he delivered products to his mostly rural customers in northwest Bethlehem. Guessing that post war Americans would want single homes with quarter acre lots, he began acquiring farmland cheaply.
What he didn't develop for tract housing, he sold. The excess land became Lutheran Manor, Muhlenburg Hospital and Martin Tower.
Eventually, he provided a shopping center on land that he purchased for $30,000 from a stubborn farmer.
