Worked here in the late 80s, when it first opened. On a good day, the mine produced 0.025 oz/ton...however, the milling process was not suited for the environment, so many tons of gold ended up in the tailings area,

I don’t believe the water at the bottom of the mine is a leech pond. Why put a leech pond right where they were excavating? That water is there year round so the pit must have hit the water table in that area. It is probably no more than 30 feet deep. Most abandoned pit mines have a pool of water at the bottom which seeps in from the bottom. There are some abandoned iron pit mines in southern Utah with these pools that have huge salamanders living in them. No one knows for sure how they got there but the best guess is that they live in underground streams that some of these mines might have breeched. Anyway, fascinating video! Thanks for sharing.

Correct ........rain also will fill up large catchment pits pretty quick esp in the mountains ...just leave your wheelbarrow outside ..what happens is it fills with water in no time ....

Dude. You crack me up, Andy Sandberg type energy 🤣 But have you ever heard of the "Berkeley Pit" in Butte MT? It's a toxic pit from an open pit as well and has some absolutely insane history, past and current. This gave the same vibes 😳 how is this just abandoned??!

hmmm, I thought they abandoned it because the price of gold dropped dramatically and wasn't worthy to mine any more... currently with Gold spiking now... Colosseum was originally discovered in the early 1970’s, with production of ~344,000 ounces of gold between 1988 and 1993 from two open pits. At the time of closure, the gold price was at a cyclical low below $350/oz. No exploration has been undertaken at site over the past 25 years.. With a gold price 4-5 times higher than in 1992, there is significant potential to re-examine the remaining mineralisation below the open pit as well as explore for depth extensions. Currently Dateline Resources Limited (ASX: DTR, Australian listed company) reported interim results of a geological review of the Colosseum Gold Mine Project exploration data (Colosseum), located in San Bernardino County, California, USA. Dateline announced the acquisition of Colosseum in March 2021 and has been reviewing the various historic reports and data for the project. Share price went up today 25%... watch this space... exploration is about to take place again, potential mining may be back in the works with in the next 24 months...

That rainbow colored material might be Bornite or Peacock Copper. Great job on all of your vids. I wish you would stop the profanity and the oft use of My God. He is my God too, and that is offensive.
