Includes descriptions of the district from the 1603 book A Survey of London by John Stow.
This area saw massive changes during the 20th century with nearly all buildings severely damaged by World War II incendiary bombs and subsequently redeveloped including the 1960s-1970s Barbican Centre which also wiped away the old street layout.
The extent of the ward is as described by Stow, since then many of the wards of London have changed, also Stow's boundaries often do not match those shown on old maps.
The Agas Map is good for visualising how London looked at the time: mapoflondon.uvic.ca/old/6.3/a... . Also Google comes up with detailed old maps of the individual wards.
