We will drive through Humble, #Texas, a historic and thriving town north of Houston. Humble has some not to humble origins - oil was found there in 1904. By the next year, the Humble oilfield was the largest producing oil field in Texas and the origin of the famous Humble Oil Company, now Exxon. After the oil boom, many residents went back to dairy farming and the timber industry. It is now considered part of the Houston Metropolitan Area and is close to the Houston Intercontinental Airport. Humble is in Harris, County and has about 16,000 residents. We will begin our drive on South Houston Avenue (or Old Humble Road as it is sometimes called) and head north until we turn into the downtown area then see a bit of residential Humble. The Humble City Café is an excellent place to eat downtown, but there are many shops, restaurants, city offices, churches, and purple street signs we pass along the way.
