Jupiter Artland Art Gallery & Sculpture Park is located around a 25 minute drive from Edinburgh City Centre, close to my home, and it's one of my favourite art venues in Edinburgh. I shot this wee film a couple of years ago and there are now another couple of fantastic new art installations. I hope this whets your appetite to visit and discover them for yourself when you're next in Edinburgh.

One of the things I most admire about Jupiter Artland is that they don't shy away from darker more sombre work - which really makes you reflect and think a little deeper about things. I like to be thoroughly challenged by an artists work and to go away feeling like my brain has had a really good workout. Jupiter Artland certainly does this and I really admire their non-fluffy approach to curating artists work.
This is an extraordinary contemporary sculpture park, created in the grounds of Jacobean manor, Bonnington House. The sculptures have been carefully sited around the park and can be stumbled across in any direction you please. As mentioned, some of the sculptures are very thought-provoking and, indeed, quite challenging. However, they're all open to interpretation and it's remarkable just how differently people can view these exquisite works of art. What can seem quite dark to one person can be full of positivity and light for another. That's the whole beauty and fun of art.
Popular highlights include the Cells of Life by celebrated landscape architect Charles Jencks, the Weeping Girls by Laura Ford and the colourful and surreal Love Bomb by Marc Quinn. There’s a good cafe and shop, so why not make an afternoon of it. It’s also worth checking their website for the talks, tours and events which take place during open season.
The park is open from the middle of May to the end of September (see website www.jupiterartland.org for details) and there's a small admission charge with concessions. As of writing (29th May 2020) it's sadly closed until further notice due to the pandemic.
