Great video, looks like you're off to a great start on the new adventure. Some of those tower shots were really nice, you 'different' composition of the reflections with Jodie in the frame was a clever solution

Never had the fortune to visit Malaysia before, but this was cool to see, liked the composiitons for the Petronas towers too, I like how you use the ambient blue light to accentuate the buildings really cool shots.

Brendan, during the blue hour, you said you were struggling to find the composition because the towers are so big. Try to go to the base of the towers, stand right between them and shoot straight up with the wide angle lens. That would be a cool image.

awesome street shots (absolutely loved the one @ 3.40) enjoy your me-trip, hope that it's gong to be as awesome as most of your travels :D. small question though - my friends want to go to thailand for 2 weeks with them and want me to come with them, but i just found an amazing deal for a 17 day thailand-kuala lumpur-india-dubai trip.. no one of my friends is a photographer, should i say sorry to my friends and go solo? though i'm sure that spending more time at a location would give me more time to discover it's unique spots :)

You can always go with your friends and just meet up with them at the end of the day, no? Just be sure you make sure they know you want to be shooting pictures. My guess they'll be glad to have a photographer with them to take some epic photos of them.

Kind of tough. It's really hazy all the time and the light doesn't seem to come in very often. The humidity makes it muggy. It's decent for street life, tougher for landscape style images.

I have been watching your blogs for a long time and have always accepted what you say on camera when you are presenting a place. But having lived in KL for almost 12 years now I do have a different perspective of things. So my comment is this: if only you knew the actual truth when you talk about this country. Don't get me wrong, I am not criticising, it's just that when we all go to a place as tourists we have a different perspective and when we actually live in a place as residents then it certainly changes either for the better or for the worse. Today's blog made me realise that you couldn't present it in the way it actually is because you visited as a tourist. Just something to think about.

I don't get it.... I mean, apart from the obvious which is that when you go elsewhere you see it with "fresh eyes". When we live in a place (well it happens to us with everything) we see as normal things that for tourists might look cool. So, apart from that I don't understand the comment, mainly this "if only you knew the actual truth when you talk about this country". He barely speaks of anything of the country itself other than the multiculturalism; and there are internal problems everywhere in the world.
@BrendanvanSon
7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm very careful at being clear on things and not speaking in absolutes, I feel. I talk about what I see, mention what I see, and if I talk about things about the country it either comes from research or talking to locals in which case I mention (when I read about this) or (locals tell me)... Also, I'm showing places as you visit them as a tourist. I'm a traveller, not a local.
@marieta.s

Juan Quedo to be honest i wouldn't expect anybody to understand my comment if you haven't lived in this country. I am not a native Malaysian, I am an expat. This is what makes all the difference. What you say is true when you live in a place all our lives and don't see it as tourists see it. But as a foreigner living in a country and a culture that has nothing to do with where I come from, I have a different perspective. Sorry I cannot go into more details on the matter. It's just that after having heard Brendan presenting what the Malaysians claim about their country the thought just jumped in my head and I said if only you knew.
@juanQuedo

as I said before, there are problems in any country of the world and the image that the country projects of itself, to the rest, usually does not reflect those problems; they sell their best face, otherwise people wouldn't go to visit them.
