One of my favorite ambients was the scream of the Leviathan Grandgousier when it spawns in. It’s very intimidating and gives that “Oh sh*t…” feel in your bones. I also like the chomping sound effect and how the noise would dampen when you’re far away. Hearing that chomp from afar gives you a heart attack and can also be good cinematography when watching your friend get eaten like in the first video in Winsweep’s POV. That *ding* sound effect when you place the password on the thing. It sounds hella good. I can’t even describe how good it sounds.

The quality of the ambience in this dimension is insane! Getting things to sound like what you expect them to be is actually really hard, and I feel like you absolutely nailed it. Being stuck in this watery world alone, with only the sounds of your footsteps and the ambient noises for company (at least until you hit level 3), would be an absolutely alienating and surreal experience...just as it's meant to be. Combine that with the stellar visuals, and I _really_ want to see someone try to tackle this in VR. I can only imagine what kind of an experience that would be.

I know you've already spent a ton of time working on this. I think it's so epic: the ambiance on the first two levels create such a perfect atmosphere, leading into the muted underwater ambience of the third level that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's no wonder everyone was so terrified being down there. I think this effect would be intensified by having the grandgousiers gather around the radar when it's active so players know they need to run as soon as they get the coordinates.

Ngl, you really can make it more unsettling and scary by giving the wanderers a FEELING that they're not alone in the poolrooms, when they really are. You can just throw in some scary sounds into some rooms. Some sounds like when you reach the end of the corridor and after it suddenly plays it makes you turn around ask "What was that?", or some sound when you gaze into a long dark corridor of level 2 that makes you feel that something is going to go very wrong if you walk that way, when in reality everything is normal as always. You can even add some effects to level 2 that makes it seem that something is watching you, but when you get closer, its just Liminalgea leafs hanging or light reflecting off of somewhere. Have you heard about The man from the fog? The sound of it spawning really can make you panic and even if you can't find him you know he's there and you feel scared, but if that sound plays in poolrooms its going to be even more unsettling. You panic over that sound, swear that you heard something just quietly run over that corner, but you find nothing there

@@mechaflood2247 i mean one level could act as "oh you're ba k in the real world but your in an infinite... ocean?" like at first level 4 will be a minecraft ocea, just regular, with a few islands, and right after any of the exits it starts to turn into more poolrooms, such as, the islands are made from level 1 and 2 tiles, it turns more artificial, etc. lvl 5 could be something unerving but theres nothing there to kill you, like lvl 1 at night, with eyes, or hallucinations that dissapear when you look at them. and do more ideas for other levels. that would be the BEST way to keep a secret. and if word spreads around, there could be almost sub-levels to send them to, like a level with dirt on top, then pool tiles all below. or a water park underground, so if they do try to find out where the already trapped people are, they won't. sorry for putting an essay, just blurted some ideas.

*Feedback:* 1) On level two you should make the volume of the ambiance increase and decrease randomly, with the randomness based on the player's coordinates. (So it's always certain volume in a given spot.) This would make the player think that they're getting closer to/further from that trickling water. 2) You should give the Anglerweed Bulb item entity dynamic lighting aswell because it just seems weird that it stops glowing when the block is broken, and starts glowing again when the item is picked up. 3) 07:40 That room is awesome! The fact that you can't see what is inside the openings on the sides, and you have no way of checking is just perfect for making the player feel small and insignificant. Just like in the backrooms. 4) Make the Level 2 ambiance slightly (very slightly) muffled, when the player is wearing the diving suit. (Only the Level 2 ambiance. The Level 3 ambiance already accounts for the diving suit.) 5) This would be really over the top: but why not make the player stop seeing the block selection outline when they get to Level 3? In this level the outline contrasts heavily with the black background, and it does break the immersion a little bit. It's a reminder that you're still playing Minecraft.
@ledog9979
28 күн бұрын
Agree with most, but the whole reminder you're playing Minecraft thing.. did you forget about the HUD, you silly goose? He did say he's going to be polishing all of it and working on it more before he releases it (somewhere after content smp season 2 starts is rat's estimated release date so far, could change, you know how coding can be lol)
@tyronorxy5646
28 күн бұрын
@@ledog9979 The reason I said that it's breaking immersion a little bit is because it's in the center of your screen, and that's where you're looking in the majority of the time. And also because it is the least necessary to be on screen: you need to be able to see your health, hunger and hotbar (he could hide the XP bar too now that I think about it), but you don't really need the selection outline, since you 1) already have the crossair, and 2) you won't be breaking blocks down there anyway. But yes, the HUD is also detracting from the experience. The Auto HUD mod can be the solution for that.
@ledog9979
28 күн бұрын
@@tyronorxy5646 Fair. I think it should stay since you have to break something at some point and use it to input codes, but cross hair is still a thing, so it all works out. Just thinking if the mod will be publicly released, just make it a setting instead of built in, and keep outlines on by default. Some people who aren't used to Minecraft might get confused. Hiding some of the HUD elements would be a good call, or having it hide itself. Rat is one of those little coders, he could definitely code it into the mod itself.

Seeing what you've done here, I can only imagine what you could pull off using the immersive portals mod or something similar. I've seen people do some crazy nonsense with those mods. No more needing to worry about rooms fitting within logical space or directly connecting with each other.

I can only imagine this with sound physics remastered

If you haven't played it yet already, you should play Returnal. There's so much of this kind of ambiance like you made that it's basically a mystical experience in its own way

Tbh I LOVE the underwater, and being in submarines and things would be my dream, so, honestly the second level was scariest for me.

This is awesome! Are the splash effects and sound physics part of the mod? Or are they separate?

Splashes are part of another one of my mods called Effective. The video has no sound physics however, the sound effects just sound like that no matter what. If you want sound physics, the mod "sound physics remastered" is really good, but doesn't work well with the last level of Neverend

it was indeed calming and I'm glad you made a video only for the ambiance. but I almost needed a new pair of pants when I remembered what was in the third level.
