Amongst the rolling tree-covered hills and mountain tops of western New Mexico is an old mining settlement. Nature has done its best to wipe the town off the map altogether. Mogollon, however, has proved to be undeniably resilient.
Fires have been the Achilles heel of most old mining towns and almost comically becomes a recurring theme in these Ghost Towns. Add to that a massive flood, and you would wonder how could anything be left?
Plenty remains very appealing once you make the 8-mile journey up a windy narrow mountain road and back down into the valley. A narrow canal runs through the town, now making for a remarkable first impression.
High above the town, the cemetery is also worth visiting and not what you would typically expect.
Come along with us and discover what keeps the few remaining residences determined to keep this town alive.
