Stunning video of Oban in the sunshine. Loved it. Our family go every year, and have done for about 25 years. I laughed when you headed into the George St. Fish and Chip shop. It's our favourite, and always the very 1st place we visit after parking up. If you were self catering and wanted seafood, Watt's fishmongers right next to the Ferry terminal is amazing, and takes catch right off the boats. Western Scotland should be on everyone's list - but we don't want it on anyone's list! Selfish or what? :)

Built of Bonawe granite taken from local quarries, it was built in 1897 by local banker John Stuart McCraig to provide work for local stonemasons over the winter months as well as to be a lasting monument to the McCaig family. However, work stopped when John died in 1902 and the building was never completed.

Actually, you'll be surprised to know they did, especially on the East coast where they conducted a number of punitive military campaigns, advancing away up as far as the Moray Firth & building forts on the way (many of which are documented by archaeology). Mind you, you're probably right about the likes of Oban, given the mountain barrier on the West coast, although we can't rule out that it might also have been 'visited' by the Roman Navy which many believe to have sailed round the top of Scotland. 🤓

Yes, definitely a cultural difference Megan and I have learned since being in the UK. One of the perks of traveling... Always learning :)

@@AndrewandMegan There is no longer a specific definition of what size of living area in the UK is a city. If its deemed to be a city, its a city. The requirement for there to be a cathedral church has been dropped. But I would say a city needs many 100000's of residents with all of the usual services found in a city. Definitely not Oban, much too small

Americans always pronounce UK names wrong. Kerrera is pronounced KERRerra. In UK always stress the first syllable and crush the others, this is not always true in every placename but it's usually the way. Americans have a habit taken from the french to stress the last syllable. As in garAGE, whereas we in the UK say GARage. Or the name Bernard. Americans say brNARD. we in uk say BURnrd.
