Fantastic. Thanks for the tour. Roman Catholic was " the church" until the reformation so that probably was an area to do with confession. The gorgeous carved marble skeleton could be representative of the black death. Possibly. Or just a style that showed outside what the inside was becoming. Loved seeing inside and outside of church. Enjoyed presentation from Minnesota very much . Thanks

Breedon Hill church is probably the highest point in the midlands I remember many years ago doing a sponsored 48 hour Citizens Band radio thing up there on an AM radio 27 MHz we were talking Europe wide to people and raised about 500 pounds for our sponsored charity this was in the early 1980s before FM CB radio became legal in the UK we took a caravan up there as our base. One of your best videos Andy the drone shots was unbelievable keep it up.

Thanks mate. It's funny cause I only recently found out about that church! Apparently my Dad has actually played golf at this place many years ago, but then he moved onto other golf clubs for whatever reason. Change of opponents I think? I always wanted a CB radio back in them days, but I wasn't allowed. (Dad! lol)

Magic. People forget just how magnificent a legacy our ancestors left us, and to think that there are literally thousands of fantastic places like that hidden away throughout the country. I hope you don't mind me suggesting this, Andy, but if your camera can take an external mic, a lavalier would help with the audio.
@ManyFunAdventures
4 жыл бұрын
There was an external mic on it! lol. I thought the audio was okay myself? 🤔 Actually, I may be going back to my phone and gimbal and another mic from now on cause that DJI Osmo Action gave me a problem towards the end that nearly ruined my day!
@gaspode2005
4 жыл бұрын
@@ManyFunAdventures Sorry mate, I didn't mean to be super-critical. LOL. It was just that the volume was fluctuating when you looked away and with a lav mic its easier to keep the volume constant. Pity you are having issues with the Osmo Action cam though, that looked like a nice camera.
@ManyFunAdventures
4 жыл бұрын
NOOOO!!! You are NOT super-critical mate! It's constructive criticism and I LIKE THAT! because it helps me! Yes, as soon as the external mic is turned away from me the sound drops a bit. Sorry about that. But now you've said it I will sort it out. 😉👍

I remember you turning up there as they were doing building work. Don't know how I missed this one. What a nice memorial to the men of Breedon. You think you were out of breath walking that hill, you should have heard me on the Exmoor ponies video walking from a Lighthouse. Never again I bloody tell ya, nearly killed me! Definitely a place we need to visit, looks really nice and so peaceful. Lovely church and glad it was open as so many aren't. Love stained glass windows.

Those stained glass windows are stunning aren't they? So you've also been doing some panting then? lol. That was one steep hill. I'm going to have a look through your vids shortly, I'm just trying to catch up on everyone's. I've got too many subs that's the problem. lol.
@roaminginraymond

@@ManyFunAdventures ha ha! I read that as painting at first and wondered what you were on about lol. Better put my glasses on! I weren't half panting, thought I was gonna keel over!! I do love a church and stained glass is beautiful. We went in the church in Burnham on Sea called St. Andrews. Don't get hissing, I know it's the blues ground lol. They were lovely there, had water bowls out for the pooches and said dogs were welcome to go inside. I've never known church folk allow dogs in a church. Karl wouldn't take Nanook in though as he said it felt disrespectful. But I thought it was lovely of them to allow them inside.
@ManyFunAdventures

Yeah, I would of been the same as Karl. It does seem a bit awkward taking your dog in a church, especially a big un! Sort of half expect a quick wee up the side of a pew! lol. St Andrews.... pah! 🐺🐺🐺

@@ManyFunAdventures You're right there. Nanook cocked his leg in my friends flower shop the once! Glad there were no customers in there, he might have cocked his leg up them if they'd have stood still long enough!

I didn't find this video until 2 years after it was made. But to let you know, the small wooden 'room' inside the church is most likely a private area for the local lords of the manor to worship undisturbed by the local villagers. The tombs show people of very high standing, even mentioning Thomas Howard, Duke of Norfolk, one of the highest peers in the land. This church was once used by people of great importance.

Terrific video Andy! I alw ays enjoy looking round churches, and especially graveyards. There is a large cemetery near Reading in Berkshire which has a memorial to a young airman who spent most of WW2 as a POW, only to be killed when his repatriation flight crashed! Sad or what? Paul

Hi Andy, all churches that are old enough, such as this one, were once Catholic churches, as this was our state religion until Henry VIII came along, dissolved the monasteries (mainly for the cash), broke from the Holy Roman Emperor (the Pope) and decided he was both King and 'Pope' of England. This started England's Anglican religion and a bit of to and fro-ing for a few years during different reigns. Henry's daugher, Mary Tudor aka Bloody Mary, was a staunch Catholic after her mother, Catherine of Aragon (Spanish), so she attempted to reverse some of father's changes (burning lots of 'heretics' - non-Catholics - in the process), but she wasn't Queen for long (thought to have died of cancer in her 40's). Her sister, Elizabeth I, next in line, was more circumspect, possibly not very religious, or just a lot more accepting of people choosing their faith., but thought to be Protestant, rather than Catholic. So, it may have been a very old Confessional area you were looking upon. The boxed in pews are a feature from the 16th to the early 19th century, when well-to-do families would rent their pew boxes - the higher-born families wanted the pews nearest to the front and there was often a bit of rivalry. Finally, I noticed, above the Shirley effigy (the skeletal man), some very clear and definite Tudor-style embellishments on the vaulted ceiling above it (red & blue rose-like carvings). Very cool indeed! Lucky you for having been there and explored and thanks for the vid! xxx
