I will translate it for you in brief those who cant understand Hindi, he was saying that people in hutong live in old fashioned small houses but they have cameras, expensive cars like BMW and all, he was shocked why they soo damn rich. He was saying there are electrical cables which can't be seen in modern areas of cities and yet the hutong city is so clean and rich.

As a Beijinger, I want to tell you that these hutongs are the most expensive real estate areas in China, and the rent is also very expensive. There are many historical sites here, and there are many ancient residences of royalty and ministers. It is also the residence of many national leaders and senior generals in modern China, as well as many rich people in China. Ma Yun, the president of Alibaba, owns a luxurious residence in ancient style in these hutongs. Because the land price here is too expensive and in order to protect many historical sites here, it is very difficult to carry out modern reconstruction projects here.

Beijing's hutongs are not slums, and in fact, some hutongs may be the most expensive residential areas in China, with prices ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 RMB per square meter. This is because these hutongs are located in the center of Beijing and have been home to many famous individuals in the past. Some hutongs are even protected cultural relics. Beijing is the cultural center of China, so there is no need to deliberately construct modern buildings to prove its development. These hutongs serve as a testament to how the Chinese people lived hundreds of years ago

Clearfield some facts about Hutong in Beijing, Chine. 1. The Hutongs(old alley) is located city center as historical reserv. The old house are not allowed tear down to rebuild modern projects. 2. Some old house had exsited hundreds yare and the conditions are aged. But the properties price in Hutong are rocky high. The value of a old house equal to double or triple of the modern apartment in the neighborhoods. 3. Of course, lot of the houses are old amd aged which need to renovated and updated. The owners like to keep the old house as family heritages or childhoods memories. Or they are waiting for high price from investors. As everyone can see, there are sewers systems, running tap water, streets sanitation, street lights , no homeless, no geggars. It's not slum absolutely.
It is a cultural heritage site. Only millionaires can afford to buy a house there. These people who have been living there have a choice to get millions in compensation and move to another area. But still, some people don't want to leave this place coz of memories attached to it. The Chinese government will not demolish these houses but will preserve them as ancient cultural sites. Hutongs were first built in the Yuan dynasty and continued through Ming and Qing dynasties.

I know a friend of a friend who went and study Chinese in Beijing many years ago. She used to live in one of these Hutongs. In 2008 Beijing Olympics she went back to Beijing to visit and found the entire Hutong area where she used to live had been demolished and replaced with new, modern western style high rise buildings. At the time it was in fashion in China to do this as they see these Hutongs as old and backward. Fortunately, many residents protested against such destruction when it got too much. I even saw such protests in western news media. Finally the government realise that there are something worth and needs preserving so the Hutongs u see now is what's left from that time. They r extremely expensive because they r in a central area, they r cultural heritage, and they r not high rise buildings so u cant squeeze hundreds of people into the same amount of space.

The hutongs you can see in Beijing today are deliberately preserved by the government in order to retain some "old Beijing" flavor. They are mostly located in the central areas of Beijing, where land prices are exorbitantly high. The people who live in hutongs are either native Beijing residents who have lived there for a long time or very wealthy individuals.

This kind of place is called " Hutong" it's very very very very very expensive, but it's not comfortable for living at all.
To be able to get your hands on one of those historical residences, you not only need to be super rich but also super connected. Those are the old residences use to belong to the royals, ministers and super rich people back in the empire period of China. And also, they are heritage sites and not allowed to be demolished. They are really a glance of our traditional culture.

The interesting thing is that many international travelers visit the Hutong area. Most of western visitors appreciated the history and how Chinese government tries to preserve a part of history in China's rapid modernization. For Indians vloggers they think this area is poor and many Indians think this is "real China" that is still poor and there are slums in Beijing. There are 2 famous "slums" in China. One is the Hutong area in Beijing. Another one is the "Urban village" in Shenzhen, and you may find in other big cities. Urban villages are not really planned as most part of Chinese cities, but the owners are also super rich.

A slum is defined as an area of housing and environment unfit for human habitation. For example, Dharavi in Mumbai is a crowded and dirty shantytown with no electricity, no water, no sanitation, no property ownership certificate, and millions of people crammed into a small space. This is called a slum. And there is electricity, water, sanitation, air conditioning, color TV, car, real estate license, Beijing courtyard with expensive house prices is not qualified to be called slum.

Don't misunderstand indian people, I personally feel proud about the rise of china because it marks the beginning of rise of Asia. I hope Asia will return to it's original position when it used to dominate the globe economically and politically. Asia needs unity to claim the status back but western tactics won't let this happen. Chinese people have suffered through a lot and I respect Chinese culture and history. This area reminds the young generation of Chinese about their roots and how far they have arrived. There are many large houses called Si He Yan 四合院 in Hutong. Each house was occupied by a family even loyalties long time ago. Since the current gov took over, they distributed these houses to many people, say a house occupied by 10 families. Then each family had very little space. So they built extra from time to time which caused the houses lost architecture styles. That's why you saw the small alleyways in Hutong. Actually these extras were built in the garden of the old Si He Yan 四合院。Now some Hutongs have been recovered with its original look by relocating residents elsewhere n remove the non architectural style late built extras. But where you went seems still not happed recovering yet except some degree of recovery in the last one with a party. .

I don't think a Chinese man can travel alone to India so easily, freely, safe, convenience and feel so welcome by the Indians like Indian travelling in China. I remember reading report 2 years ago that New Delhi Hotel association boycott Chinese travelers and refused Chinese guests to stay in all the hotels. That is really terrible and uncivilized way to treat people who admired your country, wanted to visit your country, see your country and understand your culture. But they are disappointed when they have arrived in your country. Hope Indians will change their way of treating the Chinese after watching all the Indian vloggers showing how Indian are welcomed to travel in China without any fear, but happily enjoying their time in China. Till today, Chinese wish to see India still cannot get a tourist visa to enter India. You can google this to read more: Delhi Hotel Association to boycott Chinese goods, not provide accommodation to Chinese nationals
