I also was taken with the embossing. I wish Kaweco would put out some nice stationery with that same pattern on the top or the side. “Want” has become an ink I love (thank you for the sample introduction to it!). I haven’t tried it in the Kaweco, but it’s been a smooth-flowing ink off a glass dip and in my Piper. The shin-ryoku I also like a lot. Does the nib work in the Galen now? I still covet that forest-green Lamy 😉. Sorry you had a bad trip with the pen before getting on a better footing with it. It makes a good story, though. I have had no problems with mine. It writes beautifully with no hard starts (fine nib), even after sitting unused for a few weeks. I haven’t done the wave-it-around-for-thirty-minutes test on it yet. I have Sheaffer Coastal Blue in mine, which doesn’t seem particularly wet to me, but that’s not a quality of ink I judge well. I like not having to deal with a cartridge or one of the dinky converters. It’s been a lovely writing companion. Thanks for the review, Mike, and the adventure-packed saga of your journey with this Kaweco. P.S. I also vote for some vibrant colours!

I appreciate that Kaweco made this pen. If I have any comment it would be that they missed the opportunity to make the pen slightly larger. I have the Sport and the section/barrel is too thin four my hands.

I found the pen kit for less than the price of the pen only and I've had mine since May! I got it with a Fine nib, but found a BB nib unit - the only place I could find it at the time was with a seller in the UK. So yeah, I've swapped the nib units, just not the nib itself. I can attest to the width of the line it lays down with the the BB nib. I'm thinking of switching back to the Fine for a while.

Great review of this entirely new model from Kaweco. Too bad Kaweco's quality control is not the same as Pilot or Platinum.

I've had mixed luck with Kaweco Sports out of the box. Some work well, while others have arrived with a nib like you described. I absolutely love the form factor and build quality of these pens, especially the aluminum variants, but the nibs don't do much for me. I'd also like to know if there are nib options out there that would turn these pens into something amazing.

I have an AL-Sport (M) and an Art Sport (F). I’m tempted, but will hold out to see if they come out with a color that I can’t resist.

Kaweco's nib is dimensioned the same as a (Peter) Bock 060. Originally all of Kaweco's nibs were made by Bock. I think they're now made to Kaweco's specification by either Bock and/or Jowo (possibly both). Bock makes three nibs with a feed diameter of 5mm: the short 060, the long slender 180 (very like the Jowo #5 used by TWSBI in the Eco), and the wide 076 (used by Karaskustoms on their Fountain-K, very like the Jowo #5 used in the TWSBI 580). I think the diameter of the feed makes all three variants technically #5. (Though the 060 seems soooo smol.)

I guess if I needed a piston filler pocket pen, this would do. Seems expensive for what it is, though.

TWSBI diamond mini would also be an option at about half the price.

I disagree that the piston AL is over priced for what it is, compared to other european piston fillers with a steel nib it is comparably priced. It is significantly more expensive than a plastic sport but not compared to the Brass, Bronze, Steel, AL or Carbon Fiber. This is my first piston fillet with a blind cap so maybe this is common for blind caps, but something that I really like and think is smart is that the blind cap and the pen cap are threaded in opposite directions so if you hold the pen by the blind cap as you tighten the cap, it tightens the blind cap.

I might wait until Kaweci comes out with a Kaweco Brass or Bronze Al Sport with a piston filler for that price range.

Kaweco nibs are great for other pens (I use them a lot in Chinese pens), but the other way around doesn't seem to work. I've never managed to put in any other nibs into a Kaweco.

That looks delicious. Sharp black matte body with sweet gold furniture. I can't just do the Lego Kaweco form though. It feels wrong in my hand 😢 so I'll never get this. Anyone else have any pens that they love to look at but just can't live with?

Great, it's pushing the price up to where I would consider spending $60 USD more for a Lamy 2000. I'm torn. 🤣

I was always intrigued by this but the price is way too high, you can get pens with gold nibs in that range, if it were under the 100 euro range I might have give it a tought but, as it is, I will have to skip this.

Yeah, you can get gold nibs in this range sometimes, but this is a complicated pen, and I'm not surprised at the price. Now that my nib is working well I am quite happy with it.

I imagine if you try to cap it with the blind cap stuck inside the cap, you will have a bad time. They are too rich for my blood. I'm hoping that maybe they will be able to do a resin, or other plastic version of this pen that brings the cost down.
@johnnyragadoo2414

If that happens, you can either thread the body back on the blind cap, or take the top off the cap and push the blind cap out with something like a ballpoint cartridge. Getting the blind cap stuck is not a serious thing.

Still ENTIRELY way too expensive. At least 2 times more than it deserves to cost.

Nah, it’s a complete rip off. It’s still the same lousy nib you’ll find in a much, much cheaper KaWeCo Sport. Buy a Lamy 2000 or a Pilot Custom 74 or E95S.
