I should think the "security guard" will soon be looking for a new job now this video is out! Great explore... I'll be looking forward to part 2

Yes, I worked on the site but not on the mill. Great to see this. Many happy memories. Redundancies were rapid (same day); hence the milk and chopped tomatoes! 😂 Incidentaly, I doubt it was a security guy you saw. More likely a driver from a haulage company that still seems to be using the site. Otherwise, it could be a security guard appointed by a receiver?

Impressive site, Andy. You and Paul sure were playing hide & seek with that bloke in the orange jacket. Amazed at how much machinery the company was able to cram into what seems to be a relatively small patch of land. Those cheeky calendars are still present in every tire shop I've been to. Some things never change. Cheers.

Many happy memories from this place. Some of the nicest, most genuine people to work with as well. Look forward to the rest of the mini series.

Hi there, oh wow did you work at the mill?
@Squip72

@ALWResearchTeam Yes. I worked on the site, but not on the mill itself. Although a little run down, it was a great place to work. It would appear that the main reason that it closed was due to already approved planning permission being rescinded by the Peak District National Park Authority for mining operations at Milldam Mine. Or, at least, that is what the redundancy letters alluded to. I doubt that it was a security guard that you saw. More likely one of the drivers for the haulage firm that would seem to still use the site, judging from your drone footage. Otherwise, I guess security my have been appointed by the receiver? .

Oh thats a sad end. I hope all the workers were looked after via redundancy. Some of the factories and mills I have documented over the years closed in a similar way unfortunately.

I also know why the belts were cut, someone checked each motor before cutting power, they probably made note which ones ran the quietest for spare parts or just to sell them off at some point. But, cutting belts was easiest way to know motor spun without any other noises.

I often drive through this site on the public road from Stoney Middleton. It’s a shame to see the buildings decay.

Hello Anthony, oh wow I wrote a dissertation on the work of Dr Werner Heisenberg and his quantum theory back in my youth at university. Nowadays i would struggle with a quadratic equation. He sure was a good engineer and possibly made the first successful nuclear reactor but that history was deleted by the super powers after the second world war.
