Just so you know what I just found out about the life boats & capacity .... Life boat 1 : 7 people in it (58 more could have fit ) Life boat 3: 8 people in it (57 more could fit ) Life boat 4: 8 people in it (57 more could fit ) Life boat 16: 8 people in it (57 more could fit ) Lifeboat 2: 4 people in it (61 more could fit ) These life boats could hold the weight of 65 grown men, each 36 people in just these numbered life boats saved total, & 290 could have STILL fit ! 61 kids total died ! These 5 numbered life boats alone could have saved EVERYONE OF THE 61 KIDS & STILL had enough room to save 229 more human beings !!! But .... Out of 20 total boats ... ONLY 1 WENT BACK.... 1 now I get they didn't want to risk flooding boats in a panic, but before they left they could have taken every child and toddler infant on board, Titanic didn't sink for 2 hours!! THATS TRAGEDY THAT THEY RATHER HAVE 4 & 8 RICH PEOPLE IN A BOAT THEN SAVE 61 TOTAL CHILDREN MORE OF THE 109 CHILDREN ON BOARD The saddest thing of all, EVERYONE ON BOARD COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED IF THE CALIFORNIA WOULD HAVE DONE THEIR JOB AND CHECKED ON THE SHIP, THEY WERE NOT FAR AWAY, EVERYONE COULD HAVE LIVED.

Yes. Lifeboats for all is a result of the Titanic sinking. The responsible party is the British Board of Trade. The subject of increasing lifeboat accommodation came up at their meeting but for whatever reason, they didn't bother to update said regulation. Had it been legally mandated, White Star would have had them installed.
@McLarenMercedes
8 ай бұрын
To OP. Hate to inform you of this but large ships have sunk several times since then. Guess what? Enough lifeboats didn't save the passengers. You know why? Because modern ships either capsize fast meaning most people don't even have time to get to the lifeboats and even if they do they can't launch them. That's how 852 people drowned when the MS Estonia sank on the 28th of September 1994. You can have all the lifeboats in the world and it won't matter if you can't launch them. The RMS Lusitania had enough lifeboats in 1915. 1195 still died when she sank. She sank in 18 minutes. Only 6 out of 48 lifeboats were launched on the Lusitania. The worst time peace time sinking was in 1987 outside the Philippines. The passenger ship Dona Paz collided with a tanker. And the sea turned into a blazing inferno. Ergo leaving the ship wouldn't have made any difference because they were fried. 4375 people died. Ever given them a thought?
@McLarenMercedes
8 ай бұрын
@@harrietharlow9929 "but for whatever reason, they didn't bother to update said regulation. " The reason for this is rather logical given the reality of the time. With the invention of wireless telegraphy and transatlantic shipping being widespread the argument was that a modern, large ship could stay afloat long enough to be assisted by other ships. Before wireless telegraphy there was no way of contacting any other ship or land for assistance. With wireless telegraphy however they felt (too) certain help would arrive within an hour at most. Therefore lifeboats would be used several times by transporting passengers from the sinking ship to the one or more ships coming to the rescue. After emptying the lifeboat it would be rowed back to the sinking ship and filled with new passengers. This would be repeated until all passengers were evacuated. Since the Atlantic was full of ships of all kinds hauling passengers or cargo (or both) it was also thought that assistance would never be far away. Had there actually been ships in the vicinity of the Titanic and gotten there within an hour then this would have happened. Even with Titanic sinking in 2 hours and 40 minutes this would leave enough time to save most passengers. As it were only the Californian was in the vicinity and their telegraphist had turned off their wireless and gone to bed. Although this has never been verified and is largely believed to be the false visions of the scared passengers, there are stories of other ships passing the Titanic which were visible to the naked eye. There are some testimonies and inquiries of the SS Mount Temple which has had modern day investigators claim this ship "sailed away" from the Titanic. Officially she was too far away. Since ships could call for help the idea of lifeboats for every single passenger was alien. Another thing. While enough lifeboats could indeed have been on the Olympic class ocean liners (and every other ship) there was a serious technical challenge in where to store the lifeboats and even more important how to practically launch them. Special davits would be required. This is turn would drive up development costs and also limit the space on decks. As such this wasn't considered worth the effort. Certainly not for what they believe was for a small to insignificant gain. For the Britannic a new type of davit was developed. Those on the Titanic were still the "old, proven design". The sinking of the Titanic was just several things going wrong at the same time. I'd say that the surrounding ice field played a part too. Both the Carpathia and the Californian had stopped completely knowing it was too dangerous to go on that night while others heed the warning and went around. So when Titanic hit the iceberg she was too isolated from other ships already. Ships had also grown twice or thrice the tonnage since the 1870's and Titanic ironically DID have the legally required number of lifeboats. Fact is she had 4 more than required from these outdated regulations.

When lots of people go down and see the titanic at over 2 miles at the sea bed, the first thing they say when the get back up after veiwing the huge ship for hours usually is "a knew she was big but i had no idea it was as huge as that, its massive and thats just the bow end" but amazing when we went on it at top deck it just seemend so huge it was unreal just looking down on and along the bow end. And we couldnt see the end of it as it must be 400 feet long and very intimadating tbh. Some say really scary as if theres a haunting presence on and around the ship. But you do feel a presence down there and no doubt. Maybe its becouse its so deep and dangerous and your looking at a huge ship slowly fading away? But some one said we came to what looked like a really big high wall, and knew it cant be a wall, and the captain on our dive said we have just came to the titanic folks, and we all laughed, but it was a massive piece of the side of the ship and we were at the bottom and couldnt see how tall it went or long it went, it just went on forever in length and we had huge spotlights on it. So he said we have to go up to the top deck, so up we went passing all these decks as it was about 120 feet high. So we got on the top deck and we just couldnt believe how wide and long the ship was from about 9 feet high up off the deck, everything looked so big like those huge chains with each link about 7 feet long and weighed so heavy and the big steel rims they were rapped around were about 4 feet high and 3 feet wide. It really was amazing just to be on it even as it was slowly fading away, we just imaginend what the whole ship would have been like if the stern didnt break off and we had the whole 882 feet long ship and it was easy to forgett that the bow was buried 50 feet into the sea bed as it was still big, but that extra 50 feet at the front mostly would have been amazing to see how high up it really was, becouse the water at that depth doesnt really make that a huge threat as you know your in danger as it is but just dont say so as you enjoy it while you can. Most people that have went down to see it say it is scary and very intimadating, but so is going to the moon! But that aside they all loved it, watching the real thing and being on it. The expeditions to explore the wreckage of the Titanic began several decades after its tragic sinking in 1912. In 1985, a joint American-French expedition led by Dr. Robert Ballard located the shipwreck about 12,500 feet below the surface of the North Atlantic. Since 1987, RMS Titanic Inc. has conducted 8 research expeditions to the wreck site. The 9th expedition is scheduled in July, 2024.

Only if they had enough lifeboats, there could be lesser deaths as the Ship gave enough time to everyone to escape before sinking compared to Lusitania which had a huge number of lifeboats all became useless as the ship sank within 15-20 minutes….
@dariocastellini5712
6 ай бұрын
Actually no, due to how fast it was sinking the crew lowered all the lifeboats they could, if Titanic had more boats there wouldn't have been time to lower them anyway. They could have filled the lifeboats they had to full capacity though.

The boat is the Olympic, the sank was due to the fact the boat leaved Southampton with the hull damaged. White Star Line knew it of course, they were thinking to eliminate anti FEDERAL RESERVE opponents that were taking place on the boat: they revaluteted the insurance of all their boats weeks before to obtain premium from the sank. Any of the survivors did ever talk about any iceberg, The iron used for the hull was ordinary, like written in books project of the boat, not extraordinary as requested for a boat like this one. The process of building of the front part of the hull was a mistake. There were not binoculars and only white rockets (not red ones to ask help.) on board.. The hull collapsed because of the low temperatures of the ocean broke the hull (also previously damaged). Some of the survivors told they heard a big noise and saw a little boat disappearing in the frog. White Star Line obtained money from insurance and killed over 1500 people for their purpose. This is what really happened that night.

no one on Titanic opposed the Federal reserve. Guggenheim and Astor never spoke on the Fed and all evidence suggests they would have been in favor of it. Isidor Strauss on the other hand was a known and vocal supporter of the fed as seen in the NY Times of october 1911 and early 1912. WSL lost money from the sinking and it was the primary reason for the later merger with Cunard in 1935. None of the passengers said they saw a smaller ship and many eyewitness testimonies from the inquiry, during it and after it state that they saw an iceberg with one witness stating it buckled the hull around their room and smashed in the portholes leaving ice across the cabin. The wreck is Titanic. it has the Titanic's yard number 401 across the wreck including on the engines and other machinery impossible to swap within the given time frame. the reality is a horrific accident occurred and led to the deaths of 1517 people. not some stupid evil scheme

I understand the tragedy, believe I do, but I with the would salvage the artifacts before there gone, we should be able to see the artifacts because once the ship implodes on its self they will gone for ever, education preservation should be considered, this will keep the titanic alive

Yes. You are correct. Titanic struck a North Atlantic iceberg at 11:40 PM in the evening of 14 April 1912 . It sank on 15 April. Thank you for the clarification. 👍🏻

The Titanic had 16 compartments in the hull of the ship, separated by partitions called bulkheads. They are designed to keep it afloat if damaged. However, the damage caused by the collision allowed water to flood six of the sixteen major watertight compartments. As water rushed into the starboard side of the ship's bow, the ship began to tilt down in front and slightly to the right.

Do you think the anchor,s are still free standing or would they be fused to the ship with rust ?.

There may be some slight "fusing", but I guarantee if, in some hypothetical way, it was possible to release them, they would fall to the bottom just as fast as if they were still "Squeaky Clean".

what is that appendage on the bow of the sunken titanic?
@toddkurzbard
4 ай бұрын
If you are referring to that crane at the tip of the forecastle, it is the center anchor crane. Its' function was to raise, or lower, the center anchor (visible today in it's well at the tip of the bow), so that, should it be needed, it could be fit into its' hawsepipe in the bow. It would be stowed facing aft (towards the bridge) unless in use, but is now turned the opposite way, over the bow (most likely caused by the bow section's bottom impact).
