For many the best thing about snowboarding is bringing people together by getting to experience something they love with their friends/ family/ some random from the chairlift.
Well, apparently all those people and more were out, especially when it's a powder day. The line for Peak Chair was not for the faint hearted, so we decided to make the most of our time and do a little exploring around some of our favourite areas. Whistler Mountain is huge, with around a mile (1600m) of vertical, and being the largest resort in Canada boasts some pretty serious stats. Of course, not every is managed and patrolled, and one of the largest areas of glades on the mountain. This area is not managed or groomed, with hazards constantly present: tree wells, creeks, cliffs, rocks, buried logs. People get lost here every year and it's definitely not something to be taken lightly. However if you are relatively seasoned like ourselves, you can have a little more fun with it.
The area of Million Dollar and Khyber Pass is massive and almost always disorienting, and I don't get the chance to explore as much as I would like due to the risks involved. Today, though, we are out with the crew and Andreas showed us some areas that's he's been scouting recently. There are many areas where the creeks get very dangerous near the bottom of the mountain.
