In this video we make an aqueous solution of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) and put it to react with aluminum foil. The products of this chemical reaction are hydrogen gas, sodium aluminate and heat (temperature rise). (Aq) + H2 (g) + H2O (g) + heat.
We collect the hydrogen gas in a flask and promote combustion using a lighted candle (reaction 2 H2 (g) + O2 (g) → 2 H2O (l)).
