Following the testing of the previously successful Me 163A series, the Germans began developing a new, improved version for operational military use. This would lead to the Me 163B series, which was the first and last rocket-powered aircraft to be used in active combat. In comparison to its predecessor, the Me 163B offered a number of improvements to its design and shape. By the war’s end, less than 400 aircraft of this type would be built.
