And I'm like a jerk instead of 8^x=32 => 2^3x = 2^5 for some reason I went this way: 8^x = 8 * 4, then 4^x * 2^x = 8* 4, divided by 4... and so on... well, I did not notice that you can do 8^x = 2^3x at once, and 32 = 2^5 (It's all a translator, if there are mistakes here!!

Which would be .. let me get a calculator . 1.6~ power. Which while I don't have the faculty to do 1.6 power in my head. It would be 166.66666666% power Which helps. So its 5.333333333 repeating over the number. That would give us 8. 8^1 = 8 8^2 = 64 A quick calculation would give us a miscalculation That being half of 64 is 32 So we would think 1.5 But this is exponents between 1 and 2 We have a number that gives us 4 Exponentially 8×1 =8 8*8 = 64 1-8 valued to get 4 is a 66% difference 2-7 Being directly at the 1/2 mark. Which is why the 66% exponent is needed.

@user-tc9di5wf7x nope. 8^x is getting multiplied by 2 and then the whole thing is divided by 2. We can see it as this: we get into a car, I move it 2 meter forward and then 2 meters back, we just reached where we were so the 2s cancel out leaving 8^x only

love the video, i thought of a bit simpler solution to this math specific math problem/ equation so 8x + 8x= 64 since we are dealing with two identical number and powers we can divide by to to simplify resulting in 8x = 32 since our result doesnt contain any x just a raw number we can just divide the number on the right by the number on the leftleaving us with the result for x x=4 i sont know id yhis is the proper mathmatical method id love to see if you can provide any corrections to my method
@guiolaio1514

You have an error in your solution: you write 8x =32. However, the problem in question is 8^x =32. You got the solution x=4, which would mean that 8^4 =32, which isn't true! The key here is to understand that 8x = x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x and 8^x = 8*8*8*8 .... x times. Therefore, we must use the method used in the video, which is to transform 8^x and 32 into powers of two, because if we have the same base (the number below the exponents, which in this case it will be 2), if we want the numbers to be equal, the exponents must be equal. So, what they do in the video is: we know that 8 = 2^3. So, 8^x = (2^3)^x. By the exponent rules, this means that 8^x = 2^(3x) -> 2 to the power of 3x. On the other hand, 32 = 2^5. So, we have 2^3x =2^5. Just as I said, this means that the exponents must be equal. So, we have 3x =5, which means x =5/3. Hope this helps

@@guiolaio1514 8^x is not x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x (=x^8), but instead 8 multiplied by itself x times. This is an important distinction: 2^3=2*2*2=8, but 3^2=3*3=9, 10^2=100, but 2^10=1024 etc. The reason I find it relevant to clarify this is (since you clearly do understand exponentiation correctly) , that it seems to me that @petervetrak7191 either lacks experience with exponents or is unfamiliar with superscript notation for exponents. Your explanation is otherwise both clear and correct.
@Metheglyn

@@ChickenGMD it seems to me that @petervetrak7191 reads the 8^x as 8 multiplied by x . That is, that he does not interpret the [raised x] as being different from simply x. Thus his reasoning holds, since 8x+8x=16x an if given that this is 64: x=64/16=4
