My brothers car we had to recovery the AC to do the back plugs on his firebird I later found out if you unbolt the motor and jack it up you can get it out without the AC Accumulator in your way

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of a firebird for a lemons car but never thought they had even less room to work on them.

What a pain… and that’s just to remove the Dog House! I thought my Astro Vans were a PITA!

The Astro also has the cap and rotor. So that’s less fun. At least you can reach the plug’s through the wheel well.

@@hughbertsprojects - I recently had my cap and rotor replaced on the ‘05 Astro after it refused to start following two weeks of rain. I probably should have done it before it stranded me since it was running poorly for about 3 weeks prior. Point is I wisely paid a mechanic and there are all sorts of boot prints on my driver’s interior door panel. I can tell it was a fun job!

@RustyZipper my in-laws have a bravada with the 4.3. Their cap and rotor has been going bad every 6-8 months. I think that the quality has gone down on them. Not sure what brand they bought. So much moisture buildup.

@@hughbertsprojects - I have an ‘02 Express 4.3 work van and we used to have to replace the cap and rotor every spring; we only use it April- Nov and it would be stored inside all winter. Was Always serviced at the local small repair shop. Finally one year I took it to my mechanic’s shop with about 10 bays and he suggested replacing the entire distributor as I complained it was troublesome every spring. Sure enough he replaced the whole unit and it’s never been an issue since. 3 summers so far 🤞 He said they just get worn out and we had over 150k miles on it. He said it was due about 50k miles ago🤣 but the small shop liked taking our money every spring for the cap and rotor job so they’d never suggest the whole unit.

@RustyZipper would have never thought of that. Next time it goes bad I’ll mention just swapping everything out.

I changed plugs on my Sebring years ago with 200k on them in about the same condition. Previous owner said a shop did these plugs last but unsure when.
