Great info. As a former auto mechanic I'm a firm believer in sharpening all of my cutting tools and have been doing so for years. Thanks for giving others a kick to the bum to give it a go.

Excellent tip Rich. I've got an old pair around and you reminded me I could sharpen it. It is in the range of 10 - 20 years old I think. It might be time for them to get a better edge.

As a retired cabinetmaker I appreciate the value of a sharp tool. The step may be there because they use a bypass action to cut. I polish the backs of tools with a hard white whetstone. On tiny tools a diamond file is nice for the cutting edges.

I wouldn’t know how to work a bench grinder. I would probably hurt myself. Lol.
