I've only made it as far as the title of the podcast, but I have to disagree: people ARE, in fact, dumb. Now I will go ahead and listen to see if Dubner can redeem himself. [Edit] Okay, the podcast is about Behavioral Economics and Richard Thaler's contributions. And I'm happy so say that it appears Thaler and I agree: people really are dumb. Although he was nicer about it than me.

I’ve met a lot of people in my life. Hate to say it but a lot of people are dumb. Some are really dumb. And you’re right. Life is hard for everyone. But even harder if you’re dumb.

My observations in behavioral economics/decisionmaking can be summarized thusly: everyone in my hometown says they would do anything for the high school football team to win the championship. There is almost none of them that would have the team win the championship if it meant their child had to lose their starting position to a better player.
