I'm an MTG noob, so is Koma so dangerous that Rachel was justified in aligning with Jordan as soon as Jamie played it? I'm not asking this because Jordan ultimately won but with how dangerous Yoshimaru was and the way Jordan's board was set up in keeping it so formidable, I would think Jordan was the bigger threat even with Jaime having Koma. Is Koma really that scary?
@pinkstarburst99
Жыл бұрын
Koma will usually run away with games if left unchecked. Not saying it's an auto win but it's something to be weary of when played.
@lukemortensen801
Жыл бұрын
Basically, Koma is a threat that makes more threats, protects itself, and shuts down other people's threats. Not only that but Jamie was generating way more card advantage than Jordon and would've been very difficult for Rachel to kill Jamie on her own because she was running out of resources. She got to the point where she was top-decking for an answer to Jordan's board which is more achievable than fighting against Jamie's Koma and massive card advantage. Before he died Jamie was drawing 7-10 cards a turn and Jordan was drawing 2-3. Yoshimaru was definitely a faster clock but it's easier to grind out an argo/voltron deck like Jordan's than a value-based deck like Jamie's especially since he had already set up an engine.

Once an attacking creature is blocked, it remains blocked for the rest of combat, even if all of the creatures blocking it leave combat. I have a rules question. At 44:18, Rachel casts March of Swirling Mist, targeting 3 of Jamie's creatures. Jamie sacs Linvala to give his two other targeted creatures hexproof. Then it looks like Rachel responds by using Shadowspear to remove the hexproof. But how does that work? Since Shadowspear's ability resolves first, Jamie's creatures won't have hexproof yet. Or is Rachel letting Linvala's ability resolve, then activating Shadowspear?
@helderboymh

If you listen she doesn't say in response 44:29. As the animation makes clear the ability of giving hexproof resolves then she activates the shadow spear. You are correct that if she did it in response it wouldn't work.

It was at 20 power when it attacked. If he didn't take any commander damage from it previously(I can't remember), that would be one short of lethal for the first strike damage, then he would get hit by the regular combat damage. If he was hit previously and the first strike caused lethal damage, you are correct
