I was never a big fan of the groove pool in Ableton (but that's just my workflow) and I always ended up maually created my grooves. This on the other hand is exactly what I've needed as I have full control + I can mangle the groove the way I like, thanks for yet another great tutorial Polarity !

People are too hung up on the ableton way when something like this is implemented in a way that allows for more control in pretty much every other daw (studio one, cubase, tracktion waveform even), though elegance varies. Groove extraction and quantization are among the most urgent features needed if bitwig wants to reach musicians outside the generative modular crowd (nothing wrong with that).

Wow this is very cool. Definitely going to give this a try.

Really nice idea! You could go one step further and record the midi data from such sample loops in a extra clip and could build up a very big number of midi clips, but small sized groove pool of clips with this device included. 🌻

How do you turn a loop into a mid?

I've watched this video like 10 times in a row and still don't understand a second of it Bitwig needs to just add a damn groove pool already lol

@@PolarityMusic I feel you, I am just all about efficiency. This is a lot of work to achieve something that's practically automatic in most DAWs. The Groove machine tool on your Patreon has been super helpful though. One thing I've wondered, Is there any way to map the values in the step section of the groove machine to MIDI controllers? I have seen people on KZitem use Groove machine and control the step delays with knobs but I have not been able to figure out how to assign that myself

I don’t think it’s possible with the step mod. Maybe with the parseq 8 mod.

This is really instructive. But don't you have to align your midi notes precisely with the gate anyway to get the real attack of your drum? BTW I used the spectral tools on this. They are finicky for this purpose but divide the bands very precisely. Another great video, I learned a ton, thanks!

Polarity you are a freaking Wizard! :) Next: How do you go about making it affect the groove of an audio loop? Food for thought.

If it's just a loop a straightforward way would be slicing it to a drum rack, then following the method described for midi

nice, I thought of this exact idea the other day. also, for hihats you could use logic comparison module for note pitch, like if it's equal or above your hihat note, then bypass quantization.

at least we can modify it in all kinds of ways. in ableton there is only analyze and take it or leave it :freak:

yes. you use the polygrid (instead of note grid), and for the "note out" module you use my "grid note out" preset: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kX1nz2x_mGN6rWk besides that, it should be the same

Anyone else have a weird bug where the audio sidechain device inside the Note Grid can receive signal (waveforms bouncing with the transients), but the attached Oscillator has zero activity ??
