Ex aerospace engineer here...Fatigue is the progressive damage process of a material when subjected to repeat cyclic loading. Here we see repeated loading of 42MPa at that depth which I saw was near the max for the sub. The failure can be subdivided into three distinct stages, including crack nucleation, micro- and macro-crack growth. The micro-damage accumulates throughout the material and can grow steadily into macro-cracks, and then causes the macro-scale damage leading to the ultimate failure of the material. Low-cycle fatigue with high stress induces the irrecoverable damage within carbon fiber polymers. They certainly imploded in my opinion. The failure mechanism also explains why earlier dives were successful.

A lot more has come out now. 1. 12am on 22.06.23 - air runs out 2.The back up is off for repairs 3.They knew what the risk was as there is a film of them reading out of the risk of the sub not being manufactured from a supply or got any form of certs as its a test unit and parts from shops. 3. The US have lost two unmanned subs at 3000m. 4. The US have turned away the UK help as they were ready to go as they have unmanned equipment to reach 8000m

I can't imagine the terror these people must be going through, presumably trapped in this submarine with less than 30 hours of oxygen left. My heart goes out to them and I pray for a miracle. The ability of the tourist sub’s hull design to withstand such depths was questioned in a 2018 lawsuit filed by OceanGate’s former director of marine operations, David Lochridge, who said he was fired after he raised safety concerns about the vessel. The same happened when Alexander Carlysle, a designer at Harland and Wolf, raised concerns about the inadequate number of lifeboats on Titanic. His concerns were ignored and he resigned. I read that their means of communication was a play station. I don't think that naming this submarine Titan was a very good idea - it is 2 letters short of the name Titanic.

Being controlled by a gaming controller is not the main problem here, as it turns out, I just saw this news recently regarding the war in Ukraine, that the Challenger 2 tanks the UK has donated to them are also operated by PlayStation style controllers. Imagine shooting at the russians literally like in one of those Battlefield games. The problem lies in how the designer sacrificed too many tried and true safety features in other subs built for similar purpose in favor of his so called innovations: Usually these types of subs seat 2 or 3 people max, but he decided to make one for 5, supposedly so he could bus more people down in a run for better profit. He claimed he added 7 unique refloating features onto the sub in case of emergency but since we still haven't seen it on the surface yet I guess none of them actually worked. No backup sonar beacon in case of distress baffles me, how would you call for help if the main sonar breaks? Also the sub with such limited capabilities should be tethered to its mother ship so they can pull you up or at least know where you are at all times because you are roped to the surface crew, making search and rescue much easier. And yes the sealing shut from the outside thing is incredibly stupid, that alone would be the one thing that made me want my money back (not that I had this kind of money to begin with), but not the joystick, that one is actually fine and quite fun, ask the tankers in Challenger 2 lol
@Ryan83728
Жыл бұрын
the problem couldve definately been the controller, just because the military uses that style of controller doesnt mean that its the same as what was used on the sub. The shape of the controller doesnt matter, its the components and manufacturer. Also whatever reciever is in place, is designed for the tank and controller, not just making existing components work, also it is definately wired and not bluetooth, as the controller used in the sub is solely blutooth. The military has extensive testing before the equipment is issued, and once its issued its tested by units in training, in all sorts of enviroments in real life circumstances. This is just 1 guy testing this controller on 1 sub, not thousands of units being tested by thousands of different people all at once like they do in the military. not to mention the requirements are much different on a sub, which is basically an airplane deep under water. tanks dont have to worry about sinking to the bottom. running out of air, crashing into things that breach the hull or not having anyone able to rescue you. plus the controller probably doesnt run the whole tank, probably just the aiming system for the cannon.
