Thank you for taking the time to show the bleed through so i could understand. It turned out beautifully. I like it being a bar cabinet in keeping with the "dancing music" vibe of the original piece.

Thought the piece turned beautifully, loved the color combinations and the wood tones. Made a great bar cart. As a long time woodworker liked the repairs too. For getting out scratches and other small defects try using a hot iron over a damp rag to steam the defects out. Just don’t stay in one place too long.

Hi, this is my first video of yours, and I must say you have honored this piece's original look. I wasn't sure about the color but seeing it with the walnut stain sold me. It has a stately feel and the sprayed hardware couldn't look nicer. The door pulls are another great addition. That sure was stubborn mahogany but it looks amazing now. The inside details are very cool too. After living with furniture like this years ago, it's fun to see it given a new life. Your multi skilled talent is on full display. It's a beauty!🌷🌷

Wow... That mahogany is tough stuff!! But you did a spectacular job on bringing that piece back to life!! Ok, 2 questions for you... 1. How do you research the year of the piece and how did you find that ad? 2. Do you add water to Melange paints?
@UniqueUpcycles
3 жыл бұрын
So the makers plate with the model number and all that info was still on the piece so I popped that info into Google and found out all the info that way. Then switched my search over to google images and found the add that way. I only add water if it’s thick. The lighter colors tend to be thicker because they have more primer in them. For the darker colors I usually just mist my brush to keep it damp and I’m good to go.

Great job, lots of time and effort paid off! How many coats of paint did you need? I’ve used Melange paint a few times and find it kind of thin. I like the colors and finish just think the coverage can be thin. I like that color, may have to try it! Thanks.
@UniqueUpcycles
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Kim! I did 2 full coats and then half a coat for touch ups. I usually do 2.5 to 3 coats on all my pieces with the exception of yellows and reds. Those tend to need more.
@shagordaahuanlla810
3 жыл бұрын
It's beautiful...but questioning whether or not 5 coats of primer was really necessary if you ending up painting it a med-dark colour. Obviously if you had left it white or painted it with a pastel, but from my experience...it wouldn't have shown through if you paint it darker colours. But really nice job otherwise.
@UniqueUpcycles
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! So I’ve painted mahogany an extremely dark gray after priming in the past and it still bled through and showed the wood tannins even with the darker color so I didn’t want to take any chances with this one.

Wow what a wonderful transformation🙌🏻🌟 I’m curious do you use the primer that is with shellac in it? 5 coats of primer and a coat of shellac I think I would have lost my mind...lol With Mahogany I would start out with 2-3 coats of spray shellac before priming.....easier for me to spray then roll on that sticky stuff. You did a great job....thank you for sharing 😊kim

I see these radio cabinets all over Marketplace here too. I'm not skilled enough to take one on. Question why do you prime, If you are painting it a darker color?. Would you still see the bleed through otherwise ?
@UniqueUpcycles
3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes you can still see bleed through on dark paint. Especially with mahogany wood. I’ve painted a piece dark charcoal gray in the past and was still able to see the bleed though. Honestly I prime 99.9% off all my pieces. I’d rather just do it first to be sure instead of trying to fix it later.

When applying varnish (or paint for that matter) apply across the grain so you fill ,the grain then brush off along the grain, so you get a better result and a fuller grain. This was a technique taught to me by a professional painter.
