This video is a demonstration of how you can use Spektrum's SAFE and AS3X forward programming to allow easy flying during windy conditions. The model being flown is a Multiplex Parkmaster, which is a very light weight 3D profile foamy park flyer with a 975mm wingspan. It is equipped with a Spektrum AR-637T receiver with 3 flight modes enabled. In this case I am using FM-3, which is set up with AS3X and SAFE. The AS3X gains are quite low, which is appropriate for a 3D model with large control surfaces, but I have cranked up the Pitch and Roll SAFE gains quite a bit. During "normal" flight, you get a lot of "bounce-back" with settings the way I have them, but in the wind, it makes flying and landing a simple matter of aiming the plane and balancing the throttle to prevailing conditions. An additional bonus is that with the high degree of self leveling going on, you can jam the rudder stick hard over and perform "slot car turns" without any loss of altitude. You get a very tight and flat skidding turn without adding any manually applied counter-aileron and up elevator. It's a lot of fun, and landing, even in heavy wind is super easy. Aim at the runway with the rudder and use the throttle to control altitude. No other inputs required!
