Your paintings always brighten my day, I love how happy you are in your mornings. I’m a beginner who is venturing into mixed media but you always bring me back into painting. I find that what ever I might learn transfers to my coloring books and other artistic ventures. I have to keep working on my stress levels. This painting is just lovely and makes me want to give it a try but above all, I enjoy how you play, just what I need today. Sara, Washington State, America.

So lovely with the salt effect! I can’t wait to try it! You are so lucky to get the rain which is needed here in dry southern California! I love the sound of it on your roof as well as the sounds of your dog sleeping on your feet and the rooster in the background! Such a lovely environment!

I love that one. Snowdrops are one of my favorite flowers. They let you know the warmth is coming and they have a heavenly scent. I used to have them growing in my rock garden of my old house. I miss them and my crocuses. I love hearing your rooster in the background and all of your animals are beautiful. It's nice they include themselves.

We visited Welford Place, where the Great British Bake off is filmed. Open for a limited number of days for charity to see the snowdrops. Thousands of them and you walk towards a huge open wood and the ground looks like snow as the snowdrops are so thick. It is wonderful and a sight to behold. Beautiful painting

It’s true that different types of paint do react differently and it was Daniel Smith Primatek paint in that particular painting. That’s a very unusual pigmented paint, and I think that’s why it worked so well. I just have a few of their colours and I don’t use them often because they are quite moody, but you could get one tube and give it a try.

I really love this painting, Diane. When I try to use salt to have the effect that you have just demonstrated, it doesn’t seem to work. I use the Meeden paints as well as the Kuretaki paint and use a fair amount of water….. it too much though, but it just doesn’t seem to work. Is there a certain paint that works better than those two as I really love the salt effect. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

@DianeAntoneStudio

Practice on some spare paper, the back of another painting for example. You need to make the paint reasonably thick, with a good amount of water and pigment. The type of salt has an effect too, you need to try fine and coarse grains. It needs to be allowed to dry completely naturally. Some paints react better than others. It’s trial and error really, and sometimes it doesn’t work for me either. Hope this helps x
