I would at least check the piston ring gap while the engine is dismantled because I pulled down a Briggs and Stratton engine of mine almost 4 years ago now & replaced the piston rings,I eventually found out that there was over 1 millimetre of clearance on the top compression ring so I replaced them because the engine was beginning to burn oil anyway. The reject limit was 0.8mm. I recently rebuilt a Honda GSV190 lawnmower engine for my father which burned oil like a chimney until I replaced the piston rings which were a bit tired, the bottom compression ring gap was 0.5mm which is 0.05mm out of Hondas upper limits, they were tired because they had lost all of their tension !
