Get the ball to the end and win - regardless. If you can destroy everyone at the start line, you will just take the ball and stroll to the end and win. So, they are all out to kill Alita, and destroy everyone else and win the bounty of 500k then go back and get to the end, and still wins. I love the script. They need not tell us everything where we can easily deduce. That would be lame and the whole movie will be too slow and might go into the boring territory.

@judahusmc

In the modern world people are uncomfortable confronting biological realities, but the truth is, that YES a more mature body is inherently more ready for procreation than an immature one. So in a sense, yes there is a certain kind of sexual consideration that's worth noting when someone sees themselves as a fully matured adult rather than a person transitioning out of childhood. I don't know that it needs to be inherently "sexualized" but yes there is a absolutely a sexual component to that physical maturity and I personally felt it was handled just fine in the movie. *shrug*

There's a lot of things with which I would disagree (respectfully) in terms of your review and opinions. Let's take a dog for instance. This is the first being in this movie that approaches Alita without reservation, it licks her chicks, and apparently there is a connection made, she feeds the dog and there is this heart of Alita shown and her attitude towards another innocent creature. Also, she saves this dog (or so she at least things) from being smashed by centurion robot. She then remembers the dog when she enters the Kansas bar and the dog follows her. And then this dog is the only one who stands in Alita's defense against Grewishka, returning a favor, sort to speak (she saved the dog earlier). I don't think that movie needs to show you more Alita-dog relation to make you understand that she was really disturbed by Grewishka killing an innocent being who posed no threat to him and who was, in a way, Alita's friend. And by the way - I am pretty sure that if there were not so many things included in the movie but only few of its plots, you would find another reason to complaint :D Maybe the movie would be too boring for you :D When you say that it felt like 4 hours movie fit into 2 hours I think it is a very good sign. Imagine the opposite - 15 minutes movie stretched to 2 hours. Or Hobbit - 1 book stretched to 3 movies :D It did not work out.

There are so many stupid things in this movie, from huge plot holes, to dialogue that is beyond cheesy. Because you are missing the point of all these Filmhaus videoes. When they don't like a movie, it's because the movie to them feels like it was made to get people in seats or to make money. THere is no heart in it and you can see that as it is reflected in everything. THis movie, though flawed, showcased throughout that the people making it had a passion for it. And that is infectious. So even though there is shitty dialogue and the plot is lacking a bit, it holds up because everything is done so beautifully. It';s like when you try something and fail. If you have a defeatist attitude about it, people will tell you to just give up, you clearly aren't up for it. But if you try and fail but want to genuinely keep trying, people will root for you. And this movie is in no way dull. It is extremely fun. So something that is bad, and is just bad is clearly just a bad movie. But something that has some bad but it a lot of fun, well how can you deny the fun you had just because there were some things that weren't great?
@Morhpocelionate

kidunderabridge i know, and it’s fine if they like it or whatever. I think the people making this were passionate about it, especially in the effects department. But it’s still a movie, and this movie really misses the mark on so many levels. The pacing is very poor, the writing is down right awful at points, especially within one of the major plot lines in the film which is the relationship between Hugo and Alita. I literally did not care about Hugo at all, and when he died, after a scene where she saves him, than like not even 10 minutes later in the film he just decides to walk up that cable thing and died because of that fuckin ring weapon. Just doesn’t make sense. The action scenes are good, the visuals and the world are nice, but the rest of the movie that’s around it is just kind of a mess as a film. Like they said in the video, I’m sure this would make sense in the manga given they have more time to flesh all of this out, but I think it was a failure by the screen writers to make it an interesting movie.
@kidunderabridge

@@Morhpocelionate I think some things you talk about were issues, but again. Overall, it was an enjoyable movie. And the ring thing didn't piss me off because it was established earlier on. Foreshadowing is actually a strong tool in movies. Addtionally. You say they failed to make an exciting movie. That is never something Funhaus claims about movies when they say it is good or bad. Exciting is subjective. Addtionally, for you it was not exciting, but for me, them. It was. So for you to say that, well I think you are being rather harsh. In the end you didn't enjoy the movie and that's fair. I loved it. I thought the pacing was great, I never felt a dull moment. I was thoroughly entertained. When I think of a "bad" movie funhaus talks about with problems that do nothing for the movie, I think of Jurassic Park Fallen Kingdom. That movie was bad. It had stuff in it that was good, but overall, I felt like the movie was not going anywhere and was merely a symptom of "this needs to happen for the sake of something happening". ALita, for me anyways, never had this. Everything was established and felt believable and within the realm of possibilities.

For the guys who enjoyed this movie but don't want to read a butt ton of manga, just check out the OVA. It's 45 minutes of old school anime goodness and covers a good chunk of the movie but I think does a better job of giving a sense of time passing. It's interesting though because this movie is literally the opposite of Ghost in the Shell. GitS took a beloved source and altered it to try and make it it's own thing which turned out horribly and made a bad movie. Alita took a semi-unknown (at least with more current anime fans) source and did it's best not to cut anything to make a pretty OK movie. There just needs to be a balance. The "purity" is too much to shove into a single movie but if you gut it for everything but it's visual style then you've got a soulless pretty husk on your hands. There is a lot of material out there that can be adapted, they just need to work on that balance. And Hollywood can even have their white bread actors and shit in them! GitS (the anime) was a movie that featured an obviously Japanese cast but with movies like Alita the doctor always looked pretty European and the citizens were robot mishmashes which allows SO much wiggle room! You'll notice that there weren't really any outcry of whitewashing in this one because none of the original characters really stuck to a certain ethnicity, they were just cyber punk as fuck. And there are a lot of shows and movies like that where they could easily get away with it, they just have to not be insensitive asshats about it and choose some of the most Japanese ones to shoehorn Scarjo into. I'm an anime fan, sure. But I'm not gonna scream for them to keep every line and scene the same. I love and appreciate smart adaptation and while I was skeptical of Alita to start with, I do believe it's going to be a step in the right direction and I really hope it doesn't totally bomb.

I gave those things a pass because the visuals and actions were so good...yet I thought the script sucked..there were a million things going on, and the writing wasn't great..but I thought Salazar did a really good job with what she had to work with.

I love the look of the movie but the scenery was way more interesting than any of the characters who weren't Alita. I can sum it up as this movie is a James Cameron self insert fanfiction.

I never thought I'd be so happy to hear 4 dudes talking about women roles in movies but holy shit you were spot fucking on. Even shouting out the great video of "born sexy yesterday" and then giving an honest criique of her character was awesome and so accurate.

I was at a movie yesterday and when I saw this trailer I was like “wait, didn’t I see this 2 years ago?” Is this some weird case of jamais vu or was this movie put on hold some time in the past years?

Understanding the intentional sappiness/cheeziness of the "romance" and its tragic failure: "Hugo's (Humanity's) Fall" Alita is at least 300 years old... she's been through a lot of $hit, and yet she's the most human person of all, 100% devoted to doing the right thing, to being a good person, Alita never cowers before evil, "I do not stand by in the presence of evil", she truly is "the most human person I've ever known" (as Hugo said rightly), total sacrifice to others, "willing to give her heart, her life, and her own interests/dreams/desires for someone else". Alita knows full well how sappy and cheezy the romance was with Hugo, but she didn't care, as she wanted/needed that hopeful moment of escape, from the $hit of the world and of her life. Alita intentionally believed in Hugo, hoping he was that sappy/cheezy "perfect guy", just wanting a moment to smile, to forget the $hit of her world and of her existence, but then Hugo had to ruin it, as he wasn't that sappy cheezy "perfect guy"... Alita's one moment of escapism, her brief chance to smile and forget the world and reality, was crushed by the reality of the world and of people. No one is more human than herself, she's way more human than humans, and so she is constantly disappointed by the rest of humanity, and constantly having to stand up to its evil, as she's the one good person in the entire world. Alita truly is an angel, fallen down from the heavens upon this undeserving world and its undeserving humanity. ---- After seeing Alita, I found myself... wishing I could swap/replace/switch a lot of people I know with Alita Alita is the perfect person/human, the perfect woman, the perfect wife, but none of us are good enough for her. Alita is just too good and pure for us. Having Alita as a wife, and she doing her own fighting for herself and/or fighting for me, reminded me of this scene from Cinderella Man: kzitem.info/news/bejne/yneZnZhrhYlzkqQ "Ya, ain't she something!"

Around the 20:00 mark where they mention fight choreography, Sam and Niko from Corridor Digital I think did a really good breakdown of exactly what they were talking about. A fight/action scene that shows multiple moves or beats in a single shot instead of cutting around everything makes for a far better fight/action sequence. Edit: found it: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qZVnn6aJnXeIlKQ

i didnt get the chance to see Spider-verse in the theaters, however, the 3D for alita is another experience, everything that was "cringey" was basically just translated from the source, a giant hammer? straight anime, the born sexy yesterday with shonen hero, straight anime. just saying. edit: the dog dying should have been more tramatic. in the anime, Grewishka slices that dog up like a turkey, and it fucks alita up, also supposed to show Grewishka is now like "a badguy" i thought a hard R would have been so much better edit again: hugo wakes up and has a psycotic break, and just says fuck it and trys to climb to zolom, Spoiler: shes looks for him in the scrapyard after he falls p.s. the daughter scene, and the heart scene were so poorly down

When Christoph Waltz was recounting his daughter's death, I saw the rampaging cyborg and thought "holy shit, I think that's Casper Van Dien!" and when I went home to look it up, it was. I guess I'm just sad nobody in this video was a psyched about that like I was...

Alita (the character) was fucking badass! She was wooping some major ass. The story was quite weak but the world was super interesting and I thought at one point that it reminded me of Cyberpunk 2077. I mostly cared about the whole bounty hunter plot (can't remember the name, the motorball was entertaining but felt a bit tact on. This is all coming from someone who knows nothing of the manga so I don't know if the motorball is bigger in the manga. I would definitely say that this is worth a watch

As a person who doesn't know anything about the manga, can anyone explain the main story behind how Alita is basically part of URM and how she even rememebers attacking Zalem at some point but no one's even questioning if Zalem and Nova are the bad guys? Even then, the URM military seems like they all had the big eyes and I'm sure people there remember the war so why aren't they phased at all about Alita or don't even know where she came from?

I fucking hated the love interest part of the movie with Hugo. It’s so stupid. The first fucking guy she sees and they wrote him In the most cliche way. Fuck Hugo me and my friend were literally laughing out loud when he fucking died in the dumbest way 5 fucking minutes after they save his life. Holy fuck the Hugo character almost ruined the movie.... but in a way I pm glad he was there because they at least made his death scene hilarious so it payed off.

I absolutely loved this movie. I get the critics, I really do. But for some reason, the glaring problems were just right for me. I don't know why, I know I shouldn't like the movie based on those problems. But I don't get it, I loved this movie.

I have to comment on this, the 3D in this movie was awful. It was a mixture of being shot in 3D with bad rivalry between the two eyes, converted 3D which looked great, and nothing. Literally nothing, half the shots in the movie weren't in 3D at all! It was extremely jarring to go back and forth between these really deep shots and then flat shots that had zero depth to them. It's like they ran out of time or didn't bother paying the money to convert the rest of the movie because they knew they wouldn't make it back.

Saw it last night finally. I liked it but yeah, sadly the story was a bit weak. I also wish the world was a bit more open. I can imagine the new Cyberpunk game's world will be more developed. I just wish I saw it in IMAX and 3D.

Hey Jon, technicallyyyyy to become a cyborg, a person needs to be able to tell where their artificial limb is in space, just like how we can tell if our fingers are open or closed, while we shut our eyes. This is called proprioception and it's something that scientists are getting really close to! Unfortunately, people with artificial limbs and no proprioception cannot be cyborgs.

I was laughing my ass off when Hugo died. He was a shitty person who for all we know was responsible for the death of hundreds. Each person that they stripped for parts could have been killed by the other dude or by anyone else who wanted to take advantage of a person with no limbs. Imagine dating a dude that beat up handicap people and stealing their wheel chairs. I don’t care if they stopped because they met me and I was in a wheel chair. Dudes fucked up. Zero redeeming qualities.

To these guys the manga is "dragon ball", "sexualize"... all that nonsense without having any knowledge of the source material and get this, the manga is a goddamn masterpiece compare to the movie, the movie does not do it justice least in terms of depth, and to watch these ignorant people bash the manga cause of the sh*tty mish mash everything script, is just not ok.

Whether it's any good or not, I'm still surprised that the 90s nostalgia barrel is apparently so empty that fuckin' Alita: Battle Angel is what they scraped off the bottom. I'd have been destitute if someone came at me with that bet.

This is one of those kinds of movies where checking out the source material does a lot to fill things in, and explain why the script covered why it did. Keep in mind the manga itself spans multiple series, and it's still going somehow. That's a fuck ton of material to work with.
